Sox Send Bronson Arroyo to Reds

The Red Sox sent pitcher Bronson Arroyo to Cincinatti, along with some cash, for 24-year old outfielder Wily Mo Pena.

Great trade for Boston.

Re: Sox Send Bronson Arroyo to Reds

Although Arroyo is a 33-33 lifetime pitcher, he eats up innings. Wait until they get aload of Wily Mo's strikeout totals, more than 1 out of every 3 at bats! He does have power and is young, but time will tell if this works out for Boston.

Cool Re: Sox Send Bronson Arroyo to Reds

I think it was a better deal for the Reds. Willy Mo Pena is very inconsistent. When he's on, he wallops the ball all over the field. But when he gets cold, he can't buy a hit. Last year, he started out on fire and then was finally benched when Austin Kearns came back.

Arroyo is a good pitcher. Plus keep in mind the success of pitchers going from the AL to the NL. The Reds have an extra outfielder and Pena is expendable. The Reds need pitching in the worst way. Great deal for the Reds.

Re: Sox Send Bronson Arroyo to Reds

Take a look at Arroyo's declining numbers last year before you judge in favor of Cinci. He was tremendously inconsistent. Arroyo has already peaked - were he to have stayed with the Red Sox, he wouldn't have improved on his numbers of the last couple of seasons. This is a trade for the future, and a good one for the Sox.
