Curt Schilling contract

Curt Schilling has announced his plans to become a free agent after the end of the season, this coming after the Red Sox allegedly refused to discuss an extension during Spring Training. Says Red Sox president Larry Lucchino, "The request [for a new deal]... came as a bit of a surprise. But out of respect for him, we met and discussed it, considered it and thought at this age and stage it was probably more appropriate to make that contract decision at the end of the season."

Re: Curt Schilling contract

Can't blame the Sox here. Considering his recent health history, no reason they should give him years and lots of money before seeing how he does this year.

But it will provide an interesting scenario in late July if he's productive.

He's still 40+ and has to face the DH-rich AL line-ups. If he stays healthy for the majority of the year, I'd expect a record along the lines of .500 give or take a few wins here and there.

Where does he fit in the rotation? Meaning, is he Boston's ace, #2 or what?

I think he is the ace until he falters...his numbers were not bad last year 15-7 with 184 K's and +200 IP...Though his 4.58 ERA after the All-Star game...might make me reconsider...

Re: Curt Schilling contract

with the batting line-up the Red Sox have i think Dice-K, Lester. and Paplebon all have a chance to be 20 game winners

if they all come close Schilling better pitch the year of his life or he can fade away

Re: Curt Schilling contract

He is no longer the dominant pitcher, we onced witnessed in Arizona.

Schilling is now that "2nd Man" guy in your fantasy baseball rotation, who can get you some decent numbers, but not Cy Young potential.
