Boston Red Sox Blogs

John Cheever once said, "All literary men are Red Sox fans. To be a Yankee fan in literary society is to endanger your life."

Indeed, the literary infatuation with the Red Sox has a long history, dating back to the early 1960s when John Updike penned an essay about Ted Williams' last game. From the mid-70s to the mid-80s, as the Sox continued to lose in devastating fashion, their fans began to envision themselves as the great literary sufferers, as baseball's own version of the ancient Greeks.

The present day Red Sox are really no different. Novelist Stephen King has season tickets to Fenway, and even cowrote a book with fellow writer Stewart O'Nan about the memorable 2004 season. So, then, is it really a surprise that, in the world of sports blogs, the Boston Red Sox are one of the most well represented teams?

The following is a comprehensive list of the funniest, most informative, and most original Red Sox blogs out there.

Surviving Grady - www.survivinggrady.com
One of the most popular Sox blogs out there, Surviving Grady was started by two Sox fans after the 2003 ALCS as a means of coping with their pain. Now, their irreverent humor and wit have people stopping by daily.

Fire Brand of the American League - http://all-baseball.com/firebrand/
Evan describes his blog as an “analytical (and sometimes not so analytical) look at the Boston Red Sox.” Fire Brand is always an outstanding read not just for fans of the Red Sox, but for fans of baseball.

Singapore Sox Fan - http://www.singaporesoxfan.com/singaporesoxfan.php
Ever wonder what it would be like to be a die-hard Sox fan living in Singapore? Daryl may be 12 time zones away from Fenway Park, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have his finger on the pulse of Red Sox Nation.

The Baseball Desert - http://www.baseballdesert.blogspot.com/
On the front page of his blog, Ian wonders, “If an English baseball fan living in France voices an opinion and there's nobody around to hear it, does he make a sound?” He certainly does, and it comes in the form of The Baseball Desert, an excellent take on life as a Red Sox fan in France.

Wall Ball Single - http://redsox.mostvaluablenetwork.com/ (Formerly Keys to the Game)
If you’re familiar with Jose Melendez’s daily Keys to the Game, than you already know that Wall Ball Single is probably the single funniest website on the planet. If you don’t, well…what are you waiting for?

The Joy of Sox – www.joyofsox.blogspot.com
This blog has not only the most clever name, but is one of the most well-rounded Sox blogs out there, with a daily dose of news, stats, and opinion.

Soxaholix - www.soxaholix.com/
If you don’t have a sense of humor, you probably won’t like Soxaholix, which features Sox news and opinion in the form of a daily comic strip. The Wall Street Journal had this to say about Soxaholix: "Part Doonesbury, part Bill James, part graduate seminar in literature … 'The Soxaholix' is part of a countermovement, much of it online, to reclaim the team for its true fans."

Blue Cats and Red Sox – www.FelineAnarchy.blogspot.com
Written by Sam, a University of Michigan art student, it’s 1 part Michigan, 1 part Boston, and 1 part sass. Whether she’s breaking down the Sox infield, or critiquing their roster photos, she’s always a fantastic read.

Cursed to First - http://confessionalpoet.typepad.com/cursed_to_first/
Half Patriots and half Red Sox, Cursed to First follows Boston’s championship teams with passion and poignancy. If you’re looking for a blog written so well it can make a simulated game sound poetic, Cursed to First is for you.

Basegirl - http://www.basegirl.blogspot.com/
Kristen prides herself on following the Red Sox in a “rather unprofessional manner” and she insists on finding humor in their daily minutiae. Luckily for us, she has succeeded in doing just that.

Keep It Above The Mendoza Line - http://battinggloves.blogspot.com/
Ever wonder what the first meeting was like between Johnny Damon and his master, George Steinbrenner? This blog combines Sox news and humor and you’re guaranteed a laugh or your money back.

Sass-a-thon – www.sass-a-thon.com
She’s a die-hard sports fan who blogs about Philly sports, pop culture, and of course, the Red Sox. If you like your sports with a little bit of sass and a whole lot of passion, this is the blog for you.

Re: Boston Red Sox Blogs

This is some great info for RedSox fans, CityofBrotherlyShove. Great thread!

Admin Note: We normally don't allow external links in posts other than links to articles on news sites. The only place for sites you want to promote is in your signature. This thread is an exception. If you know of a good Red Sox blog that should be listed in this thread, go ahead and list it.

3 requirements for any links in this thread:
1) Only link to established blogs. If it's newer than about a month old, don't link to it.
2) Only link to active blogs. If it's not had in any posts in the last week or 2, it doesn't belong here.
3) Only link to a blog with a useful description of what we'll find there. Links with no descriptions or minimal descriptions will be removed.

So if you have or know of a GREAT Red Sox blog, tell us about it here.

Re: Boston Red Sox Blogs

Hey MVB, thanks for the link but let's try to only add links here with a description of what people will find at the site. For example, I checked out the SawxBlog site and found that they're doing a PodCast. Now that's cool and a reason to have them on a list of the best Red Sox blogs!

So again, if you want to drop a link to a RedSox blog, here's your checklist before you post it:
1) no new blogs, only established blogs
2) no dead blogs
3) Include a description of why they site is cool & worth a look

Thanks, Ross

Re: Boston Red Sox Blogs

My apologies...

Sawxblog is a great site ( for those who like the Red Sox ). And even, as a Yankee fan, I can enjoy the site. Sawxblog has great coverage of all Red Sox trade moves, rumors, and Spring Training performances. As Ross mentioned, the site owner runs a PodCast which is cool in and of itself.

Re: Boston Red Sox Blogs

I recently found a pretty interesting blog. It's called Matsuzaka Watch...but run by a Yankee fan. LOL...sounds like an idea for a sitcom, no?

His latest post, Welcome to America, offers his insights on Matsuzaka for the upcoming season.

Very interesting stuff.
