Re: Clemens To Close For Sox The Sox will go after Gagne before they touch Clemens. The "Family Rule" Clemens had with the Astros gives him the opportunity to be with his family on the days he does not start. He only goes to the ball park on the day he pitches. Kinda hard to have that rule if you are a closer. I've been a Sox fan forever... Script writers can keep dreaming... Clemens is not coming back to the Sox. He'd go to the Yankees if he was going to play anywhere other than Texas. He's said that multipal times. I can't believe loyal Sox fans are so clouded by the idea of Clemens wearing a #21 Red Sox jersey, that they can't see he does not want to come back. If he really did want to officially end his career in Boston... he would have made that decision 3 years ago.

Re: Clemens To Close For Sox Gagne is the same type of gamble Matt Clement was. While his young career is filled with greatness... he's comming off a very severe injury. All signs point to him rebounding fine, but what are the Sox willing to pay for that type of uncertainty? I hope they do go after him... I just hope it turns out better than Clement did.

Re: Clemens To Close For Sox Not to be pessimistic, but I think it will be a cold day in hell when Clemens agrees to be a closer. He's a top tier, Hall of Fame, maybe best ever, Starting Pitcher (which are incredibly more valuable than closers). Why would he want that role after thriving is his native one so well? Maybe i'm wrong, but why take closer money? Closers make 8-9 mil a year max, and he could make 20 as a starter. Lets hope he gets a little crazy and takes the 9.
