The GM Meetings (the meetings prior to the Winter Meetings in December) began today and word from them has the Boston Red Sox offering a contract to free-agent outfielder JD Drew.

Drew would be an interesting signing. His defense is great and his bat is pretty good. You'd have to believe he'd do well in Fenway.

He'd only perform at his potential in Dodger Stadium.

I'm with you Azrael - I don't think they need Drew - the Sox would be better off spending their money on arms. But Drew is a high on base % guy and Theo Epstein comes from that Bill Beane Money Ball theory of stacking your team with high on base %.

The Philadelphia Daily News(on the bottom) says the Red Sox are close to signing JD Drew to a 4-year, $48 million contract.
