Ortiz wins AL home run, RBI crowns

Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz took two of the three Triple Crown categories this season, finishing with an AL best 54 home runs and a league high 137 RBI. Definitely an impressive season for Big Papi, and most likely worthy of some MVP consideration, right?

Of course he'll get some consideration but because of how Boston totally flopped the last month, he won't come close to winning the MVP Award.

Re: Ortiz wins AL home run, RBI crowns

DH and no play-offs hurt him too much to win this year

to overcome that he would need over 61 HR's imo

i wouldnt think it would matter where the Sox finished if he got over 61 HR's

being a DH will cause some people to never vote for him

Take the last two years running and the league owes him one.

If I were a voting member he would not get my vote. I'm New England born and bred so naturally I am a Red Sox fan but if we are going to talk about MVP then I think you need to look at the total player. Ortiz is probably one of the better things to happen in Boston for a long time but he has no fielding qualities. I don't think I could ever give my vote (if I had one) to a DH, no matter who it is.

So are AL pitcher also not worthy?...they don't hit...and they field 1 in every 5 games...and yet...sometimes...they actually win an MVP.
