David Ortiz home run record

Yesterday, David Ortiz hit his 51st and 52nd home runs to break the Boston Red Sox single-season home run record. The old record of 50 was set by Jimmie Foxx in 1938.

"I'm very proud of all he's accomplished in his career. It's unbelievable," Twins pitcher Johan Santana, who gave up the record-breaking dinger, told reporters after the game. "The only way I wasn't going to give up a home run to him was not to throw the ball."

What do you think of Big Papi's powerful performance this season?

Re: David Ortiz home run record

It's pretty amazing to think the BoSox haven't had a 50+ HR guy until now, 2006.

Re: David Ortiz home run record

Well, Manny Ramirez would usually end up around the 40 HR mark.

That seems good enough to me!

i agree with that

Mo Vaughn

Manny

although, the problem always seemed to be lack of protection for the power hitter

real happy for Ortiz though

from what i have heard then line-up will be really different next year, i just hope they keep him some protection

Manny or otherwise

David Ortiz's home run-hitting ability > Derek Jeter's home run-hitting ability

David Ortiz's everything else < Derek Jeter's everything else

Re: David Ortiz home run record

I feel like I'm in math class.

2006 Red Sox < 2006 Yankees

Case closed.

Re: David Ortiz home run record

I'm not one to hype the Yankees but with Jeter...he's been in the playoffs every year of his major league career. Ortiz hasn't.

David Ortiz played with the Twins. What do you expect?

It's call an unlimited payroll and Jeter is but 1/25th of the puzzle (maybe 3/25th in his case)...give any major league team the Yankees cash and Jeter would be no better than Miguel Tejadas...

How many yankees do you ever see make through their farm system?...Ortiz however crass is right...give people the Yankee line-up and they would all be hailed as Derek Jeters...
