Varitek Coming Back

Reports have confirmed that Jason Varitek has been activated off the DL and will be back in action as soon as possible.

Out of a scale from one to ten (ten being the best):How much will Varitek impact the Red Sox at this point in the season?

I'll give him a four. The Red Sox season is over!

Re: Varitek Coming Back

Of all the players the Red Sox lost before the Boston Massacre II, Varitek was missed the most. His loss was felt by the pitching staff, which somehow looked bewildered throwing to either Mirabelli or Lopez. But his coming back now, with them nine games out, is like shutting the barn door after the horse has taken off down the road.

Re: Varitek Coming Back

Varitek should have a huge impact even though most of the team is hurting. I still say he's the MVP of the Red Sox. They won't make a valiant run, but they should play at least a bit better.

Sure he is the MVP for them, though Ortiz has a say...and if the wild card is starting to slip away why bother...as it is they have a shot at the wildcard, so he will have a big impact...give him an 8.

Re: Varitek Coming Back

So far, Varitek has averaged out a 4.5 rating on the Impact-o-Meter.

The problem is that Boston has been falling apart ever since Varitek got injured. First of all, I thought this was going to be a season-ending injury but I guess not. Second of all, David Ortiz is having his own problems to deal with and that could cut his playing time in half for the future. David Wells left the club for a better opportunity in San Diego, where he must feel comfortable at last. Papelbon is no longer the 100% closer he was in the first-half of the season, and I could see their Wild Card and Division chances slipping out of their grasp.

Re: Varitek Coming Back

That is very considerate of you, simple simon.

But I think that Jason Varitek is considered the team captain of the Red Sox, as is Derek Jeter of the Yankees. In that matter, both of those players will remain in the line-up regardless of how poorly their team performs.
