Red Sox activate LaRoche, cut Kotsay
The Boston Red Sox have designated utilityman Mark Kotsay for assignment to make room on the roster for newly acquired Adam LaRoche.
The Red Sox acquired LaRoche from Pittsburgh on Wednesday in a trade that sent shortstop Argenis Diaz and right-hander Hunter Strickland to the Pirates.

LaRoche batted .247 with 12 home runs and 40 RBIs in 87 games for the Pirates this season.

Kotsay hit .257 with two doubles, one home run and five RBIs over 27 games with the Red Sox.

Good pick up for the Sox. He'll fare well with other bats around him.
