Red Sox Go Closer Shopping Perhaps "shopping" isn't the right word but Boston GM Theo Epstein alluded to the fact the team will be looking to acquire a closer (via trade) during the Winter Meetings next week. While I doubt the Sox would have enough to pull of a trade for a major name, perhaps they'd go to Washington and look to pry Chad Cordero away from the Nats.

| Re: Red Sox Go Closer Shopping I think it'd be a great move. Gagne could probably be signed to a relatively inexpensive deal. If he's healthy he's one of the best closers in the game. If he's not, well, you don't lose much. This would definitely be a great signing for Epstein, should it happen.

Re: Red Sox Go Closer Shopping No, he probably is going elsewhere. Also, how is Cordero not a big name? He's only 24, and his ERAs in the last 3 years have been 2.94, 1.82, and 3.19. He won the Roliads relief award in 05, led the league in saves, and was an all-star. If the Sox could get him, we'd be dancin to the playoffs.

Re: Red Sox Go Closer Shopping In todays day and age athletes are true only to the dollar. Johnny Damon left the Red Sox for what reason ???

Re: Red Sox Go Closer Shopping No only is Gagne going, he's gone! To the Texas Rangers, that is, not the BoSox. So now where does Boston go in their search for a closer?
