Franchise players hard to come by

The spotlight is on Dwyane Wade right now, as well it should be. He is the reason why the Miami Heat are the NBA champions. But the reason why it isn't the Los Angeles Lakers or the Orlando Magic is because of Shaquille O'Neal.
And that, friends, is the impact one player can have on a franchise. When a superstar player, a franchise player, leaves, the impact is not only immediate, it can be long-lasting.

Orlando's downfall wasn't just Shaq leaving...he left then they signed Grant Hill who couldn't stay injury free...and T-Mac the same year...but their small Market team failed to woo a big man like Tim Duncan that year...they had salary cap room ...they just couldn't land a big name to play in O-town.

Oh, and we kept Ben Wallace for all of one year before giving him away to Detroit...and see how that turned out...

Re: Franchise players hard to come by

I have heard many rumors that Kevin Garnett wants to leave Minnesota on the next train possible. If a team is willing to pay his large salary and trade someone reasonable for him, he will be gone in a flash. I guess he just got tired of losing and missing the playoffs year after year.

He is arguably one of the best players in the league.
