Knee injury ends season for Celtics' Szczerbiak NEW YORK (Reuters) - Boston Celtics forward Wally Szczerbiak will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee next week and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
A six-year NBA veteran, Szczerbiak has been bothered by pain and swelling in his knee for the past several months. He had an MRI scan on the knee Thursday.
"I know a bone bruise showed on the MRI that we didn't foresee," Celtics coach Doc Rivers told the Boston Globe.
"The bone bruise made it more of an immediate need (to have surgery). Finding out about it was disappointing. He was hoping not to have surgery."
The Celtics acquired the 29-year-old Szczerbiak on January 26 in a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He was averaging 17.5 points for the Celtics in 32 games. Gee, there goes our one bright spot this season...what's going to keep them off Pierce now?
