Celtics offseason report Up to the minute news about the Boston Celtics from GoTeamsGo. We'll find the latest Boston Celtics news so you can chat about here. Quote: Off-Season Game Plan: Celtics
TSN.ca, Canada - 19 hours ago
The once-proud Boston Celtics have fallen on hard times and a 24-win season in 2006-2007 leaves the organization in need of a saviour. With the second-worst record in the league, though, the Celtics are in position to land that saviour, pending the results of the draft lottery.
Off-Season Game Plan looks at what the Celtics can do this summer to change their fortunes.
The oppotunity to land a premier talent like Greg Oden or Kevin Durant puts the Celtics in position to make a quick turnaround, because they already have some premier talent in house.
Paul Pierce and Al Jefferson are the foundation for this team and adding a third option of Oden or Durant's calibre would put Boston in good stead.
There are enough quality role players as well. Ryan Gomes, Rajon Rondo, Delonte West and sharpshooter Wally Szczerbiak can all be part of the revamped rotation too.
Head coach Doc Rivers has big hopes for the Celtics, even coming off a 24-win season. Rivers told the Associated Press, "I think next year with health and with a little bit of roster improvement, we're going to be a playoff team. I think we're going to have a chance to win our division."
Not only should the Celtics be a playoff team, says veteran star Paul Pierce, it's the only option.
"I would think there'd be a sense of urgency at this point," Pierce told AP. "I mean, two consecutive years of not making the playoffs. This is a town eager for the Celtics to be in the playoffs, eager for the Celtics to be one of the best teams in the NBA. I just can't see us sit here again next season not talking about the playoffs."
