Lakers cruise by Celtics, 111-98
OCRegister, CA - 2 hours ago
BOSTON—Kobe Bryant’s latest turn as the sports world’s hot-button issue isn’t over. Even though he can’t recoup the game he and the Lakers lost Tuesday, Bryant will still appeal to the NBA’s highest decision-makers regarding his one-game suspension.

“Absolutely,” Bryant said. “They’re wrong! They’re flat-out wrong.”

Whether Bryant gets the closure he wants or his $161,000 fine refunded, for the Lakers’ greater good, it was time to move on Wednesday. And Bryant funneled his frustrations into his craft the way great ones do. He scored 43 points — 20 more than any player on the court — and gave the Lakers a key bounce-back victory over the Boston Celtics, 111-98.

Bryant also had eight rebounds and eight assists, but it was a shooting show in which 7 of 9 three-point shots found their mark that had fans in Boston chanting his name and also the letters “M-V-P.”

The Celtics tied a franchise record by losing their 13th straight. How long before changes get made?

First move I'd make is to get rid of Danny Ainge. I never cared a lot for him as a player and his managerial skills are even worse.

Re: Boston losing streak

The record has fallen. According to the AP, "For most of the NBA's 60 years, Celtic pride has been about winning: 16 championships and three other appearances in the finals, forming a tradition of success that was the hallmark of the league... Now, more than 20 years since their last title, almost a month since their last victory, pride is all they have left... The Celtics set a franchise record Friday night with their 14th consecutive loss, falling 100-89 to the Los Angeles Clippers."

Broken record: Celtics lose 14th straight game
Concord Monitor, NH - 22 hours ago
BOSTON - The Boston Celtics lost their franchise-record 14th consecutive game last night, falling 100-89 to Elton Brand and the Los Angeles Clippers.

Brand had 26 points, 19 rebounds and four blocks, and Cuttino Mobley added 20 points for the Clippers, who have won seven of their last eight.

Tim Thomas scored 12 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter, five of them during a 7-0 stretch in which L.A. turned a 71-69 deficit into a 76-71 lead.

The Clippers never trailed after Thomas's free throws snapped a 71-71 tie.

Rajon Rondo, making his first career start, scored 23 points for the Celtics. Al Jefferson added 21 points and Delonte West had six points, 11 assists and a career-high 11 rebounds.

The once-proud franchise has not won a game since beating Memphis on Jan. 5. The only thing the Celtics and Grizzlies are competing for these days is the top spot in the draft lottery and a chance to select Ohio State's Greg Oden or Texas's Kevin Durant.

True he's done a lousy job, but I really liked him as a player. He made so many big shots and was tough as nails.

I liked his as a player, too, but as a GM, he stinks. And the Celtics are crashing down to new lows, losing #15 in a row yesteday, 109-102 to the Detroit Pistons. Doc Rivers summed it up best, telling reporters, "We really didn't have a chance... We played a better team tonight. They had some matchup advantages, and they went right at us." This has been very, very difficult to stomach.

Cool Re: Boston losing streak

Tommy Heinson was just interviewed on WFAN and according to him, the Celtics are up and coming. Here are some of the things he said:

1. He would coach them in a second, if he were asked.
2. Danny Ainge is doing a great job. He was handed an impossible salary cap to manage and now has the team pointed in the right direction.
3. Rajon Rondo is going to be the next Steve Nash or Jason Kidd.
4. Paul Pierce is going to be the best offensive player the Celtics have ever had.... (Didn't Larry Bird play for the Celtics?)
5. Doc Rivers is doing a good job developing the young talent and should not be fired.

Re: Boston losing streak

I think Heinson's done lost his doggone mind. I agree that Rivers shouldn't take the blame for what's going on. But Rondo isn't going to be the next Steve Nash, and Paul Pierce going to be the best offensive player the Celts have ever had? Only if he peaks at 40. Ainge is NOT doing a great job, either. If he was smart, he would've held onto the draft pick instead of dealing it for Telfair. Didn't like the trade then and nothing's happened to change my mind.

That was then ... today we are breaking a record each time we set foot on the court. I'm sure that if you go stand on Red's grave and you're real quite you'll hear "FIRE Ainge" seeping from the ground.

As far as Tommy H. goes, he is just another big mouth. If he was as great as he makes himself sound he would have been in charge a long time ago. He is beyond his abilities just broadcasting.

Boston Celtics melt in the Heat
"The Boston Celtics suffered a franchise record 16th straight loss with a 91-79 home defeat to the defending NBA champions Miami Heat on Wednesday."

And the losing continues.
