Re: Boston losing streak

Why have they not contacted McHale or Bird to help the franchise. They are former Celtics. They should have some sort of loyalty to the team. They have both proven in the past that they are better than what the Celtics have now. Put McHale in charge and let Bird coach. They could turn things around.

This is very disappointing to me. They have been one of my 2 favorites my whole life. I am not used to seeing them lose like this.

Re: Boston losing streak

16 in a row?...hey at least its a franchise record...

That's bad...I have seen some horrible teams the teams between the 1977 championship and the coming of Bird were particularly bad...

Re: Boston losing streak

McHale and Bird are just as bad as Ainge. McHale especially is a joke with what he has done with Minnesota and Bird keeps rebuilding but never puts anything solid together. The three of them should be in the unemployment line together.
The NBA with the Celtics this bad is unbearable. I detest every Boston team, but when they are a laughingstock it is no fun for me. Between them and the Bruins, it is the longest of winters in Beantown.

That is what many fans do not understand. These guys (except Ainge) were some of the greats of the court. That does not make them great coaches. Look at how Magic Johnson did in his attempts at it. One of the best players ever but I could have done as well at coaching as he did. We need to get rid of this mindset that great players can become great coaches. Some have and some can ... but not all players are destined to become management material.

Legend and his impossible high standards of excellence...

Bird and McHale have not done that bad overall...I would say they have been better than say Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan when it comes to coaching or front office stuff...

legend hit it right on the head - ex-superstars tend to make terrible executives and coaches, because they expect everyone to be able to play like they did, but they're usually so naturally gifted that they have no idea how to teach anyone just how to go about playing that well.

Cool Re: Boston losing streak

I actually watched a good portion of the Celtics-Nets game last night. Rajon Rondo the next Jason Kidd? I don't think he's even goanna be thd next Charlie Ward?

I don't know how Doc Rivers can take it. They look like a minor league team. To be fair, Pierce is back now and he wasn't in any kind of game shape last night. You could see him struggling. When Pierce gets back into game condition, they should win a game here and there.

Re: Boston losing streak

Rajon Rando isn't the next Steve Nash or Jason Kidd, but he is the next guy that teams love to bring off the bench for the extra spark. I loved him at Kentucky and I love him in Boston. His handles are very nice and his court vision is the best of the rookie guards. He can breakdown a defense and create for his team. He is speed and quickness, along with his long arms, make him a valuable backcourt defender as well. He is the perfect point guard for the second unit.

As I said, I love him; however, he lacks overall consistentcy and a reliable jumper. I think Tommy Heinson is really forgetting the difference between application development and skills development. Rando is very diversified in his application development, as he possesses an array of abilties that are far more polished than his peers. But, his skill development is really lacking, especially his jumper. It isn't mechanically sound by any means and his release point seems to change from shot to shot, so he cannot be counted on to hit the open shots. Generally, it is easier to teach a player with tremendous skills how to apply them than vice versa. I don't think you can write Rando off, because he has an outstanding work ethic, but you can't go off and make outlandish statements like Heinson's either.

That said, I don't think his belief that the Celtics are a promising team is that far off.

While that might in some ways hold true, bird still had success...so did Bill Russell for that matter...and Mr. Logo Jerry West is no slouch...and Ainge is was no superstar so what's his excuse...That aside...Bird for one has not done that bad...and you can't say Mchale is closer to Matt Millen then say Red Auerbach...

Cool Re: Boston losing streak

The Celtics lost a heartbreaker last night, to the T-Wolves. Ex-Celt Ricky Davis beat them at the buzzer. When will the Celts bottom out?

Yeah, some guy named Scoop Johnson was on Mike & Mike this morning all but saying there was an NBA conspiracy to give the Celts the first pick. I thought it was funny, personally. Like the NBA would even think about trying anything again after the whole Ewing saga.

Celtics May Redefine Futility, but Hope Exists for Future
New York Sun, NY - 6 hours ago
On December 16, the Boston Celtics beat the Charlotte Bobcats 106–100 in Charlotte. The win was Boston's fifth straight, with four of them coming on the road, and put them into first place in the Atlantic Division at 10–13. Boston was young, had a superstar centerpiece in Paul Pierce, and a winnable division for the taking. It appeared team president Danny Ainge's rebuilding plan might be about to bear fruit.

Unbeknownst to the Celtics, it was the last good news they'd have for some time. Wally Szczerbiak tweaked an ankle that day, and one game later Pierce was diagnosed with a stress reaction in his left foot that shelved him for two months. Just in case that didn't ruin Boston's season, three weeks later the rapidly emerging Tony Allen tried to dunk after the whistle and blew out his knee upon landing. More injuries followed, while Boston's youth and inexperience proved more of a liability as the year went on.

In the two months since, they've won twice. You read that correctly — twice. Boston is 2–25 in its past 27 games, including defeats in the past 18 in a row. The Celtics are threatening the NBA's all-time mark of 23 consecutive losses set by the Vancouver Grizzlies in 1995–96 and tied by the Nuggets in 1997–98.

Even though Pierce is back in the lineup, Boston has a decent chance of breaking the mark.

Cool Re: Boston losing streak

From Celtic Blog.com
Quote:
Tomorrow's game against the Bucks is important for several reasons. The team needs a confidence boost going into the All Star weekend. They need a win before heading out on a tough road trip after the break. They need a win because Paul Pierce needs to know that the situation is not totally hopeless. To me, the long and short term benefits of a single win tonight will outweigh the small benefit of padding our current lead in the Oden/Durant sweepstakes by one more game.

Still, those are all secondary to me. The primary reason I want a win is because I want the Celtics to be forgotten about.

The streak needs to end before it becomes legendary. Before it goes into the history books as a black mark on a storied franchise history.
