(CP) - The Boston Bruins have reportedly landed a No. 1 goaltender without having to dip into the free-agent market.
The Bruins and Minnesota Wild have agreed on a deal that would send netminder Manny Fernandez to Boston for prospect Petr Kalus and a fourth-round draft pick, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported Saturday on its website.
Fernandez was deemed expendable after Minnesota signed Niklas Backstrom to a US$6.2-million, two-year contract June 8. With Fernandez owed $9.25 million over the next two seasons, his departure will free up a large chunk of salary that the Wild can use in free agency.
