| Fisher showing world why Lakers took him back In the ongoing 2009 National Basketball Association Finals, the names Kobe "Black Mamba" Bryant, the superstar guard of the Los Angeles Lakers, Dwight "Super" Howard, the superstar center of the Orlando Magic, Pau Gasol, starting center of the Lakers, Rashard Lewis, sweet shooting power forward of the Magic are the most talked about personalities in media, in the titanic showdown of the two best NBA teams from the Eastern Conference and Western Conference.. However, in game four of the seven-game championship series the name Derek Fisher took centerstage when the veteran starting point guard of the Lakers drilled two crucial three pointers to lead his team to victory 99-91 against the Magic and took a commanding 3-1 lead in their series. To be put in the spotlight is not new for Fisher since had been shooting clutch shot in the long years he had been playing in the NBA, majority of those with the Lakers franchise. Lakers team fans all over the globe could not forget the clutch three pointer Fisher made against the San Antonio Spurs way back in the 2004 NBA quarter-finals, Fisher hit the game winner at the buzzer to give the Lakers a 74-73 win over San Antonio. The Lakers went on to win the series four games to two. Before donning the Lakers uniform two years back, Fisher is playing as veteran back-up point guard of the Utah Jazz and was paid a substantial amount of money for his crucial role for the team. Despite a good salary, Fisher eventually decided to return to the Lakers in 2007 so that he can be closer to his daughter who is suffering from retinoblastoma, a cancerous tumor in her left eye during her treatment. The Lakers showed its gratitude with his return by offering him a starting a job as lead point guard of the Los Angeles based team. Two years since returning to his original team, Fisher is showing the basketball world that it did not made a mistake when it decided to pursue him and give him back the lead point guard role despite his age. The game four heroics of Fisher not only showed his skill as a clutch shooter but the fact that the NBA still has a room for veteran point guards like him. With three more games left in the exciting NBA Finals, looks like Fisher will once again play a crucial role for his team as it regains back its lost glory and bounced back from a disappointing loss against the Boston Celtics, who took the NBA crown last year. Fans of Fisher and Lakers team can buy the NBA tickets to watch the NBA Finals live online. Last edited by Bette : 06-15-2009 at 08:35 AM. |
