What do you think of the NBA putting in a power play system

Like in hockey. If someone fouls, they are taken out of the game for 30 seconds, or until someone from the opposite team scores a basket.

A power play for those of you who dont know is when there is a foul called, one player is taken out so it would then be 4 on 5.

Thoughts?

With all due respect..
That's extremely dumb and demeaning to the sport. It would make power houses like Kobe, LeBron, Dwight, and all the other superstars even better and would have them scoring like 40 a game. It already takes 2-3 to guard people like LeBron and Kobe, so why make it harder.. get me??

True, but I was just thinking of ideas for an alternative to free throws, they happen so often, and they're so boring.

Yeah but think about it..
That changes the game completely. It's a good try.. but it would change the outcomes sooo much. there really wouldnt be any point in overtime because we wouldnt see them much.

Well players would be more carful about fouling and it would happen more rarely, resulting in more exciting games where they are not constantly stopping the clock

They would still be stopping the clock I would imagine. Once when the player goes in and again when he comes back.
I am thinking it is really hard not to foul in basketball. ( I am a rookie at it remember) And I know some do it deliberately.
Come up with another idea Seahawker.

I agree with Bette. I been playing ball for about 9 years now, and fouling is constant. Think of it this way.. players will be driving to the basket all day because they know no one will try to stop them because of fouling. shooting will be minimal.. blocks will be low. I like the thought though.. just not the right sport. Maybe try it in football for a personal foul like a pass interference or unsportsmanlike conduct call. take the out for a couple defensive or offensive drives

Re: What do you think of the NBA putting in a power play system

I currently think they call WAY too many fouls in basketball how it is. Maybe a power play would stop players from fouling so much. It could be bigger consequences.

I think the consequences of the power play would be greater than the fouls.
Which fouls do you want to eliminate from being called?

That's what I'm saying. If the fouls had more consequences, players could be more careful, knowing it could cost his team more than a possible 2 points.

No, I am saying the consequences of the power play, taking the player out, would have greater consequences than the fouls themselves do.
Come on. How many times does one player trick or force another player into a foul? If nothing else, by some darn good playacting.

Ya the fact how they saw a player is "good at drawing fouls" just says to me that there is too many fouls in this game.

"good at drawing fouls" is saying that they drive to the basket alot and know how to finish with contact. its a goo thought.. but not theyw ay to fix basketball's fouling trouble

Re: What do you think of the NBA putting in a power play system

I thought of a different alternative... with some adjustments maybe like the teams have to set up a card where you have permanant subs (1 or 2) for one guy but you cant have a guy sub for more than one guy so if lebron fouls hes out of the game for 45 seconds or a minute but a backup comes in who is not nearly as good giving the other team an advantage... maybe i don't know but interesting

It wouldn't work in the NBA. less playing time.. less action from superstars.. or games would be outta hand. its crazy
