I would take my cahanges with Mutombo or Ming over the soft Smits on the second team...give me a defense of stopper and rebounder at that spot...Smits was a solid, soild player...but the other two are better...

Re: All Time Greatest Team (Foreign Born)

ThePundit, are you sure that you are not going to include Andrei Kirilenko, Dirk Nowitzki, or Yao Ming on your roster? I think they deserve a spot considering their dominance in the NBA. Especially, Dirk Nowitzki, who has led his Mavericks to the NBA Playoffs this year without the help of Steve Nash or Michael Finley.

Re: All Time Greatest Team (Foreign Born)

Yao was having an incredible season before he got injured; T-Mac had been out as well so Yao was forced to carry the team and he really grew into the role. For a little while I thought he had peaked, but now it seems like he could actually become Houston's leader (especially as McGrady ages).

As for my team, I would make sure to put both Nash and Tony Parker on it. Parker may not be as good as many of the other international players on the list, but it seems like there haven't been many top-level international PGs in the league yet, and the team needs a backup who can play the 1.

Welcome KnowBaller. I agree with you on Yao, he really picked it up this year...and Nash would have few International peers at the point...though I think Parker still needs a few more years under his belt.

Welcome to GoTeamsGo KnowBaller. I respectfully disagree about Yao. In my opinion, considering his size and skills, he's way too soft.

Soft?...the guy was turning into a monster in late Feb, early March...look at his March pundit...6 games over 30 points, lots of rebounds and block shots...averaging about 38 minutes a game...what was soft about that?...I think he had turned a page....and I'd take him over any 7 foot Euro center, or 6'11" college kid who thinks he can go pro after one year of college.

Cool Re: All Time Greatest Team (Foreign Born)

True - I guess his numbers were better last year. But I need to see him play a full season and lead his team into the playoffs and dominate a round or 2. With his size and skills he should be able to do that.

Pound for pound best Center his size of all time...I don't think guys like Shawn Bradley and manute Bol could compare...

Re: All Time Greatest Team (Foreign Born)

All time? That is a big title to hold. I think Wilt Chamberlain can help him hold that.

Internationally, maybe.

But, wait...

You haven't seen Andrea Bargnani hit the courts, yet!

Chamberlin was 7'1"...I am talking about centers 7'5" and up...out of those Yao is by far the best.

Re: All Time Greatest Team (Foreign Born)

I am sorry for the statistical error, Gotham Dark Knight. The last time I saw Wilt Chamberlain I forgot to measure him. Yao Ming is a superior center considering that nobody can block him. He isn't a great shooter, but he focuses his game on the inside. He reminds me of a Shaquille O' Neal-type but only a few inches taller. FOUR INCHES TO BE EXACT! (I pulled out the reference books for that one)

I need to see Yao Ming win something, anything, otherwise I can't take him too seriously.

See that's where you go off the beam...winning is a team thing...and you can't measure Yao strickly on the accomplishments of a team...might as well say Stockton and Malone are a pair of chumps that played +19 years and didn't get a ring.
