Josh Howard was honest about his appreciation for the occasional off-season toke of marijuana when asked about it by DMN's Brad Townsend.

OK, not a huge deal. But Howard went on the Michael Irvin Show on ESPN Radio in Dallas today specifically to discuss his reefer madness. (You can find a podcast here.)
"Most of the players in the league use marijuana," he said, "and I have and do partake in smoking weed in the off-season sometimes. That's my personal choice and my personal opinion, but I don't think that's stopping me from doing my job."

There's no secret that marijuana is used by a lot of NBA players.

However, the NBA does have marijuana on the banned substance list for which they test. Obviously they don't test players in the off-season but if they do, a lot of players will be in trouble.

For many athletes it's a case of what do you prefer. Smoking/using your drugs or working and earning millions. Some try to do both and I'm sure they get away with it. Others may try and lose face/money.
