It looks as if Carmelo Anthony and Speedy Claxton are staying put.

Denver Post - According to a report in the Denver Post, Carmelo Anthony expects to remain a Nugget for a long time yet and is planning on signing a contract extension this summer.

"Yes, I'm going to sign it," Anthony said before the Nuggets' shootaround in preparation for Game 1 of their playoff series with the Los Angeles Clippers . "I want to be here. All that moving? You've got to get acclimated to that city and that next organization. I don't want to do that."

While Nuggets management doesn't comment on contract negotiations, the organization is expected to offer its leading scorer a maximum contract extension when it first becomes possible on July 12. The contract would go into effect starting with the 2007-08 season. Anthony is scheduled to make $4.69 million next season.

"I want to be here," Anthony said. "I started something great here."

The Times-Picayune - According to The Times-Picayune, Hornet free agent Speedy Claxton has instructed his agent Bill Duffy to start negotiations with the Hornets before exploring other offers.

"We've got some great guys, and I've made a bunch of friendships here," Claxton said. "Hopefully, I can come back and continue it."

Claxton could demand a three-year deal, worth between $3.6 million to $6 million per season.

Hey, Colorado is a heck of a nice plce to live for someone set to make $4.6 mil next year...I wouldn't move either if I was Carmelo.

Always nice to see players stay put...anyone think Carmelo will retire with the Nuggets a decade from now?

He seems a little temperamental, I would be willing to bet he forces a trade at some point in his career.

Yes. Most big players request a trade after a few years. They just need a change of scenery.
