NBA Attendance Record

This comes as a gigantic shock to me - the NBA announce that they have set new records by averaging 17,558 fans per game and posting a total attendance figure of 21,595,804. Do you think fan interest in the game is up, or are these numbers misleading?

Re: NBA Attendance Record

You cannot really judge fan interest by game attendance. NBA teams tend to be in large cities where on any given night there will be 17,000 people looking for something too fill the hours, so why not an NBA game? I have tons of friends who have no affinity for the NBA (if anything they have an aversion to it) and they took the three hour drive up to Cleveland for a Cavs game because they had never watched one live (this is Lebron and pre-Lebron era). TV ratings are the true measure of fan interest, for which The NBA tends to be low.
