Cool Olympic dream team

Okay. Since we're all such experts (including me) on what type of American team will win in the olympics, if you had a choice for a 10 man team, who would they be? Who would start? And who would back them up at each position?

Your team should have 4 guards, 4 forwards and 2 centers or something like that. I haven't thought of mine yet but I wanted to get the forum going.

And CityofBrotherly: You can't have Alan Iverson pull a Bugs Bunny and play all 10 positions.

Cool Re: Olympic dream team

Wedge: You might be falling into the '04 trap in picking the 10 best players instead of those who might make the best "team". Also, who would everybody have coach?

Unit 1:
G-Jason Kidd
G-Ray Allen
C-Tim Duncan
F-Lebron James
F-Elton Brand

Unit 2:
G- Chauncey Billups
G- Joe Johnson
C- Brad Miller
F- Shaun Marion
F- Kevin Garnett

Coach: Flip Saunders: He has Detroit playing some serious team ball.
Assistant: Byron Scott (Winning player and coach).

I thought about Rasheed Wallace at Center instead of Brad Miller but he can lose it at any time.

I'm anti-Shaq in this case because 1) he can't shoot free throws and 2) there would be too much dumping the ball in to Shaq while everyone stood around.

My feeling is that these guys compliment each other's games in some way, shape or form and would be able to win the gold.

Re: Olympic dream team

We definetly need a change from the last olympics. When you have players like KG who can't make the show and send a bunch of players with no olympic experience, your bound for trouble. I also think Flip should be the coach. We made a mistake on getting rid of Flip here in MN. We should of got rid of Kevin McHale instead.

Re: Olympic dream team

I don't believe I am. That's why I included Kidd as PG. In 2004 they had the likes of Marbury and Iverson. Not your ideal point guards because they think shoot first. The best players on that team were Duncan and James. With the likes of James, Wade and Kidd, I would have a unselfish balance of great passers.

After looking at it again, I don't quite like my backups. So I made some changes.

Ben Wallace C
Shawn Marion PF
Kobe Bryant SF
Ray Allen SG
Chris Paul PG

Cool Re: Olympic dream team

You know what?...I am going to be a little different with this one...I would reunite the Original Dream Team...give them a few weeks to get in shape...and see if the rest of the world are still in awe over Bird, Jordan, Magic and company...oh, and because Brotherlyshove would have a cow, I'd bump one off for Iverson...and maybe throw in that Duke kid Redick just to have a long range shooting young guy....

there you go...that's my dream team... ...yeah...(anyone got a problem with that...huh?... )

Re: Olympic dream team

Easy.
The entire roster of any team that wins the NBA championship. Delete any foriegn players on that roster. 3-5 probably. Then give the coaching staff the opportunity to select from around the league the best american players at those vacant positions.

I like the way you think, Who Dey. I've always felt this would be a great idea, except I could never decide if it'd be better to have the champ or the runner up. 2nd place team would be hungried, out to prove something, you know? It'd be a second chance for them to get some hardware and glory.

Re: Olympic dream team

G-Kobe Bryant
G-Chauncey Billups
C-Ben Wallace
F-Lebron James
F-Elton Brand
Reserves- Dwayne Wade, Kevin Garnett, Tracy McGrady, Chris Paul,Brad Miller, Paul Pierce, Adam Morrison

Coach- Jerry Sloan! To me, this is an obvious choice. Anybody ever see this guy play. He was the most tenacious and prideful player I ever saw, and if caouldn't instill that in this team then nobody could.
There is no Shaq because by 2008 he will weigh 450 pounds.
No Jason Kidd because he singlehandedly made me stop gambling on sports when he was at Cal!
I am obviously projecting Morrison to be a good pro.
Duncan struggled in 2004, and he will be 2 years older in 2008.
