Cool Re: 2008 Olympic Basketball Roster

Lets jsut hope that whomever coaches this motley crew has enough sense to select a balance team. The last Olympic team we fielded was void of any great outside shooters, and did not take the gold medal.

Shaq in 2008?

I don't know how Team USA will ever be able to gel in the time for the Olympics. It's unfortunate because these teams are really the best in the competition, and nothing is gained by having pro athletes playing in The Games if they can't uphold the standards of the team game.

My only question with this squad is: Won't Shaq bow out? He didn't attend the last time, citing the two golds he already has. Geez, he may be retired by summer 2008...

Ach du liebe Zeit!

Germany?

Ach du liebe Zeit! Mein gott! What did they finish last time, seventh? Let's see, they're behind the US, Croatia, Lithuania, probably Serbia, and apparently Italy and Argentina.

Although they did win the Euro tourney...

Cheers.

I don't have to jump on the bandwagon, I can support a team they may not go all the way. You shouldn't be dissing Gremany on account of your a lakes fan. It really upsets me to see that K.G. has declined to play in the Olympics. He has a lot of fans that would like to see him play. Some of his fans can't see him play every home game because they don't live in Wisconsin. So, if he is playing a team from another state, because of availability, that is the only time that we can enjoy the thrills that he gives. He is one of the true superstars of the Jordan error that is still fun to watch play.

Re: 2008 Olympic Basketball Roster

If the players listed actually play and do not bail out before the 2008 Olympics then there is no way the US can lose this time. Just put Kobe on the floor and he'll run up the numbers.

Re: 2008 Olympic Basketball Roster

Besides Kobe, let the other countries take on Elton Brand, LeBron James and Shaq and see where they get with that.

Re: 2008 Olympic Basketball Roster

It's official, here are the 12 players representing USA Basketball at the 2008 Olympic Games.

ESPN - U.S. men's team announced, with high hopes of regaining gold - Olympic Basketball

Quote:
MVP Kobe Bryant will be heading to his first Olympics, and he'll have LeBron James and Dwyane Wade with him.

They will lead a U.S. Olympic basketball team that was announced Monday -- one that hopes to capture the gold medal in Beijing in August after a third-place showing in Athens four years ago. They'll have plenty of help.

Carmelo Anthony and Jason Kidd were among the 12 players placed on the squad. They were joined by Tayshaun Prince, Carlos Boozer, Chris Bosh, Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, Michael Redd and Deron Williams.

"It was a very difficult selection process," said Jerry Colangelo, USA Basketball managing director. "When you have as many outstanding players as we do -- to select a group of 12 is going to leave out some outstanding people."

The team was selected without a tryout. It will have a minicamp this week in Las Vegas and reconvene there July 20-25 to train and play an exhibition against Canada before heading overseas.

The Americans open Olympic play against China on Aug. 10.

Re: 2008 Olympic Basketball Roster

I can still remember back in the 70's and 80's where the USA would send their best college players every year to the Olympics and they actually did well. I think it was the late 1980's early 1990's where USA was starting top get beat where USA Olympics started to actually send our NBA players to the Olympics which I have never liked. Our college athletes use to win the basketball olympics every year until they started to get horrible coaching!!! They don't need the pathetic NBA's players...there are a enough great talent at the NCAA level to whip anybody! All they need is a coach!
