I think it is laughable to include Kobe in the top 10 of the last 40 years, perhaps among the top 10 of his era 1990's onwards but certainly not all time.

My List

1. Jordan - No Contest
2. Wilt Chamberlain - The Key was invented because of Wilt, he was also the reason passing over the backboard was outlawed, alltime leader in rebounds
3. Bill Russell - The king of defence said to have averaged over 10 blocks a game for his career, More rings than fingers - respect!!
4. Magic Johnson - Most versatile player in the history of the game
5. Larry Bird - Never liked him but undeniable prowess and changed the power forward position
6. Oscar Robertson - only man to average a triple double for a whole season
7. Kareem - Alltime scoring leader buy a fair margin
8. Shaq - The most physically dominant player of the last 20 years at 36 years old he is still drawing double teams, other teams resorted to hack a shaq because he could not be stopped
9. Julius Irving - Made the dunk cool and inspired a generation
10. John Stockten - Alltime leader in assist and steals and prolly the greatest passer in NBA history

Re: Best NBA Players in the last 40 years

you people make me sick! LOL j/k. here's my list. It's not by any order k and not based off championships. And a list of 15

1. Kobe Bryant (best in the world)
2. Michael Jordan (his airness)
3. Magic Johnson (showtime)
4. Kareem (showtime)
5. Chamberlin (the stilt)
6. Larry Bird (pure shooter)
7. Pete Marovich (crazy handles and shooting ability)
8. Dominique Wilkins (ya'll forgot him?)
9. Clyde Drexler (amazing!)
10. Oscar Robinson
11. Jerry West
12. Shaq
13. Dr. J
14. Bill Russell
15. Hakeem

There are definitley more but the thing is, you can never pick out the best player ever and the reason to that is, every player or players played in a different era. Every era changed. The game style, the size so you can't really compare. Sure Shaq could push everybody around, but back then the centers were alot quicker and smoother not bulky and slam it down. The game changes and players change with it. Jerry West's ball was waaaay different from Clyde Drexler's.

Re: Best NBA Players in the last 40 years

this is the best player of all time. You guys probably haven't heard of him yet because he hasn't been born yet, but soon enough with enough stem cell knowledge and the ability to clone babies or mix and match cells and have babies customized I'm predicting that somewhere in the future, some woman will be paid by the NBA to create the best NBA player ever imaginable. The 20 years from now will go through another lockout similar to the 90's and realize they need a showtime kind of player. They would have saved blood or hair samples from a young Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant and clone them the greatest basketball baby ever created. They will name him Kobe Jordan. He will live and breathe NBA and be so great that his dunks will make fans heads explode from the shear shock and his three pointers will literally set the net on fire. His crossover and speed will vaporize any opponent trying to defend him from traveling at such high speeds.

Kobe Bryant does not belong up there yet. Sorry. Until he wins one as the leader of the Lakers, he is more like Pippen, McHale, and West all wrapped into one. Great talent but not the heart of his own team.

1. Michael Jordan
2. Magic Johnson
3. Larry Bird
4. Shaquille O'Neal
5. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
6. Hakeem Olajuwon
7. John Stockton
8. John Havlichek
9. Julius Erving (Dr.J)
10. Charles Barkley

** Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwight Howard, and Tim Duncan are stilll active. Kobe will be in this list but where is up to him after his career is over.

wow, this is just wow. You won't include Kobe yet you include Jordan who first off, did not win until Phil Jackson came into the picture along with Pippen and a great supporting cast, Shaq never won until guess what? Phil Jackson and Kobe were in the picture and even then it took them how many years to win their first, second and third? John Stockton never won. Even Magic Johnson needed a supporting cast so therefore you cannot say Kobe doesn't deserve to be on this list because every great player has needed someone i.e. coach or role players.
