Ralph Sampson Pleads Guilty to Mail Fraud

RICHMOND, Va. — Former NBA and Virginia star Ralph Sampson has agreed to plead guilty to mail fraud and serve two months in jail, his attorney said Wednesday.

The attorney, James C. Roberts, said prosecutors will drop charges of perjury, making a false claim and making a false statement about his finances in a child support case.

Sampson is to enter the plea in U.S. District Court in Richmond on Thursday, the day his trial was scheduled to begin.

Cool Re: Ralph Sampson Pleads Guilty to Mail Fraud

What a shame. After watching him in college, I thought he would be one of the greatest players to ever wear an NBA uniform - With his height and agility, he should have been. Except you could find him in the Webster's dictionary under "soft". He could have dominated inside but he was over 7 feet and wanted to hang around on the perimeter.

Re: Ralph Sampson Pleads Guilty to Mail Fraud

He wasn't anything special, and now my thoughts of him just dropped even more. A lot of professional players have been arrested (NFL, as simple simon pointed out) but it is sometimes the unexpected. I can see Barry Bonds and David Wells breaking the law after and during baseball because of their cocky attitude. It would be a shock if David Wright or any of the good guys ever gets pulled over for something like that.

Shame on them, shame!

When I watched him in college, I thought he would be better than Patrick Ewing.
