Re: Pedro Martinez to sign with Phillies

I don't know how to feel about this the last big name starter we signed was Adam Eaton and that blew up in our face. But if he is as good as they say he's looked it could help I still want Hallowday too

Interesting pickup as a story, but he's been in decline now for 3 years. I know you're a big fan, but I wouldn't get your hopes up too much.

Yep. You seem reasonable here. I'm no Phillies fan, but you do have a good team this year, and it would be cool to see Pedro do well. He had a couple years in Boston where he was nearly unhittable.

Personally I like the move...the way the Phillies starters have looked this year, what can it hurt? And at this stage he is not going get the pressue he got going to New York...

SO if it ended today...Hall of Famer, yes or no?

I don't get it. Why sign Pedro if you're pursuing Halladay. Is the rotation bad enough that 2/5 of it needs replaced?

Well here is the Phillies rotation Myers, Hamels, Moyer, Blanton, Happ

Myers is out for the year more or less Hamels has been down this year, Moyer has been down even worse Blanton is more or less average and Happ is a rookie but is doing good and Chan Ho Park was a starter early on and was not good but he has been better out of the bullpen. We had another rookie Bastardo up from the minors but he hurt his arm so Pedro will do something

Re: Pedro Martinez to sign with Phillies

As far as having too much pitching....ask the red sox how that's going. An unbalanced rotation can effect the chemistry of a ballclub immensely. While I belive picking up pedro was a good move going after hallady may be too much. We all know what too much talent can do to a team.....08 yankees anyone?

Re: Pedro Martinez to sign with Phillies

Other than the fact that Pedro's a big name, I don't see the news here. He's not Roger Clemens from three years ago and he's prone to injury. Add onto that the fact that he won't be able to go deep into games, and I don't see this as being the piece that puts the Phillies over the top.

I am not so sure about that! Pedro is one of the greatest pitchers of this era... and for a team like the Phillies, that are very good already, it doesn't take much to "put them over the top"... If Pedro is healthy, this could be a really big sign for the Phillies!

O, by all means was he one of the greatest pitchers of this era, if by era we mean last 15 years. But if you look at what he's done in the last 2, it hasn't been much. Where did he get the Mets? I loved watching Pedro as much as the next guy, but I'm skeptical of what value he'll bring
