AL MVP: Vote Now!

There has been a few interesting debates going around the GoTeamsGo Fan Forum about who deserves to walk off with the AL MVP Award in their hands at the end of the season. Some boys from the Bronx back-up Derek Jeter while others bring rival, Manny Ramirez, into the picture leaving David Ortiz and Jermaine Dye in the dust. Jason Giambi put up some great numbers so far this year even though his he has only hit 44 singles which means that he swings for the fences and doesn't focus on getting on the bases.

Now is your chance to vote for the GoTeamsGo AL MVP!

Re: AL MVP: Vote Now!

got to be Papi

i dont think anyone can claim to be more valuable then him

he has directly won more games for them then anyone else for their team

id say that is the definition of most valuable

Re: AL MVP: Vote Now!

I guess the whole movement of "Manny For MVP" is finally dying out after posters realized Ramirez's selfish attitude towards everything, especially the front office.

Re: AL MVP: Vote Now!

Another good argument against Ortiz is last year he had one monster year...and didn't win the award. Should he get the award this year with a season less stellar than last years?

Jeter has had one hell of a year and as opposed to Ortiz is leading his team to the playoffs. (That sweep of Boston last week completely changed my mind on Ortiz).

so Ortiz should be punished because he doesnt pitch ?

and Jeter isnt leading his team to the playoffs (by that i mean he isnt directly winning the games like Ortiz is) , i believe without him they would still possibly be leading the AL East

where would Boston be without Ortiz ?

Without Ortiz, Boston would be in the same seat they are right now, NOT heading to the playoffs

Re: AL MVP: Vote Now!

Call me crazy, but I think people are a little two quick to overlook both Travis Hafner and Justin Morneau. Both players are .300 hitters and 30+ HR / 100+ RBI guys. Hafner's also scored 95 runs and leads the AL in OPS. So, with an eye to the underdog, he gets my vote - even though the Indians stink and he probably has no actual chance in hell of winning the MVP.

Re: AL MVP: Vote Now!

Let me preface all my discussion with the fact there is still a month left in the season. If a certain player gets hot and has a monster September, they will in all likelihood, sway the voters. So right now, any of the players (Jeter, Ortiz, Morneau, Mauer and Dye) could potentially get the award.

Ortiz...though in years to come I think Mauer will get his name on a few awards.

Re: AL MVP: Vote Now!

I think Joe Mauer is a potential candidate for this year's AL MVP Award. I am pretty sure that he will become the first catcher to win the AL Batting Title this year due to his incredible high batting-average. He is not only impressive behind the plate but at the plate, too.

Re: AL MVP: Vote Now!

The only problem I can forsee for Mauer is Justin Morneau is such a credible candidate himself. Both have had outstanding years and what Mauer's been able to do all year long has been amazing. He should definitely be one of the best players in baseball as this decade comes to a close.

Re: AL MVP: Vote Now!

What's the debate? You all know Derek Jeter is going to win! MLB has been waiting for a decade to name the spokesman for baseball its MVP. His closest competition is David Ortiz and he is great but he also is a DH which will hurt him in the voting. All those commercials Jeter is in...hes holding the game together in this steroid era! Yanks are in 1st and Jeter is their best player and he also is an MVP off the field as I alluded to. 2006 MVP Derek Jeter. Sox fans, learn to live with it!

Re: AL MVP: Vote Now!

derek jeter

Papi, wont play the whole season plus he is a dh plus his team is not making the playoffs. Hafner not making the playoffs. Derek jeter will be the gold glove ss will be the silver slugger at ss and possibly the best avg in the AL if not he will be second, plus he is the gasoline of the yankees he means everythign to that team and that clubhouse could be a lot different without him
