Re: 2006 MLB Comeback of the Year Finalists

Thome and Nomar are hands down the easiest pick here of any award I have ever seen.

Re: 2006 MLB Comeback of the Year Finalists

But can you give Nomar the Award even though he went back onto the DL?

I think Carlos Beltran deserves an Award this year for his stunning performance.

Re: 2006 MLB Comeback of the Year Finalists

Beltran is the only candidate for the NL MVP besides Pujols so he's got to get this award.

I'm still trying to figure out how Jose Valentin isn't a candidate for this award. He was nearly out of baseball last year and has come back strong.

In the AL, I'd vote for Jim Thome. It looked like he was done last year, but wow.

Yep, I agree. Those two would get my vote as well, and Thome especially should win the honor easily.

I got to go with my boy Corey Patterson who has added a little bit of speed to my fantasy team...Patterson batted a dismal .215 last year and is up around .281 with 36 steals and more runs so far in less games.

Thome and Beltran...definitely... Remember last year, Thome's at-bats were painful to watch and Beltran was the year's biggest disappointment. He was supposed to be this mega-star ( after coming off an incredible NLCS), but flopped...

Re: 2006 MLB Comeback of the Year Finalists

Beltran over Nomar is not going to happen. Nomar came back from a devastating injury, Beltran just came back from a bad year because he failed to live up to the Mets' expectations. he is doing now what he is supposed to do.

Cool Re: 2006 MLB Comeback of the Year Finalists

You could make the case for Corey Patterson in the AL. The guy was in the minors for a lot of last year. He's been really productive for Baltimore.

Re: 2006 MLB Comeback of the Year Finalists

Corey Patterson is on the verge of having a career-year this season. I think his best year was in 2004 with 24 homeruns and 74 RBIs, but then he fell through the cracks in 2005 with only 13 homeruns and 34 RBIs. His stolen-base total also dropped over 50% to a low-15. This year, he has stolen the most bases in his career with 37 to date.

Re: 2006 MLB Comeback of the Year Finalists

Welcome to the GoTeamsGo Fan Forum, Ya Gotta Believe. We could use some other Mets fans around here. You should participate in the daily discussion that take place in our Mets' forum. So make yourself at home and become one of our top posters. If you have any questions, concerns, or anything in general, feel free to send me a private message.

Nomar Garciaparra deserves the Comeback of the Year Award for doing his best in the past three seasons. His homerun rate may not be so high (but it never really was in a while). He still continues to rack up those RBIs which is about double of what he produced last year.

His average season (162 games played) is about 29 HRs and 112 RBIs to go with his stunning .320 BA!

2006: 79 Games, 312 ABs, .327/.398/.535, 12 HR, 57 RBI, 60 R

Beltran
2005: 151 Games, 582 ABs, .266/.330/.414, 16 HR, 78 RBI, 83 R

Re: 2006 MLB Comeback of the Year Finalists

Numbers look pretty close... Nomar's jumps in batting average, RBI and runs are mighty impressive, as are Beltran's HR, RBI and - that third one is slugging percentage, right? There's still a good chunk of season left, though, so anything could happen. Any legitimate third candidate in the NL race? Anyone who can challenge Thome in the AL?
