Question Walk In A Run

im wondering if any of you would say its ok to walk in a run

i dont know just what the circumstance would be

maybe something like: youre up by 3, bases are loaded, 1 out and Manny comes up to bat

would it be ok to walk in the run rather then chance the slam ?

is there anytime you can think of it would be ok ?

Re: Walk In A Run

I wouldn't. I would pitch carefully, never throwing a ball over the heart of the plate. I wouldn't give the IBB only because it'd feel horrible allowing a free run.

Re: Walk In A Run

If the circumstances dictate, meaning Manny or Ortiz up with a punch and judy hitter on deck, 3-4 run lead and a guy ready in the bullpen, then I can see doing it. But I would yank the guy who issues the free pass right afterwards; don't want it on the pitcher's psyche when he's facing a potential winning run at the plate.

Re: Walk In A Run

I believe Harmon Killebrew was walked intentionally three times with the bases loaded. Managers today would hate the heat if it backfired but I would walk Manny to get to Nixon or Varitek any day.

Re: Walk In A Run

Barry Bonds was once intentionally walked with the bases loaded... In my opinion, it should be done every time to David Ortiz. I'd much rather face Manny...

Cool Re: Walk In A Run

I would do it against only an immortal type hitter. Guys like Bonds and George Brett in his prime. it also depends whose behind them. You can't walk Ortiz because of Manny.
