The 21-year old (his listed age) 3B/2B defected from Cuba via Columbia according to MLBTradeRumors. He's expected to be one of the top free-agents soon in the majors. It's been reported that if he came up through the United States baseball system, he would have been a first round draft pick easily.

He played in the WBC this Spring and had 8 HRs during the tournament and was one of the non-MLB stars.

Add another to the list of potential star Cuban defectors. He's already been linked to the Yankees, but he'll likely go to a team who 1) offers much dinero, 2) offers a decent latin community and 3) a chance to play.

Hey, I love to hear when a fellow country man defects...Cuba is a hell hole...been there, done that...

But a 21 yearold with 8 HRs in the WBC huh?...Hopefully he won't turn out to be another Andy Morales...

I wonder if the Angels will make a run at him. They have the money,the Latin community, and an opening at 2B or 3B if he is as good as the hype.
