Re: Jose Canseco Traded

I hate the crap that surrounds Jose Canseco but like this guy, I think I've got a small soft spot for Canseco. Don't ask me to explain it because I can't.

Any one else pulling for him or do you just want him to go away?

I like Jose...he's a character, but I got a cousin with a huge crush on him (why who knows)...great talent once upon a time...the biggest reason between Jose and a lot of today's player is he actually admitted to bending the rules...

Wasn't he in the surreal house?...Isn't he trying acting out?

I hate the guy... I mean he comes out with a book, bashing baseball and its stars, and then he returns to the sport. He is arrogant and self-centered to an annoying extreme. I am so not rooting for him in any way!

Arrogant and self center discribes most of the league...for all his stupidity, he was at least honest about a few things...which is more than you can say for Barry, and former Bash Brother Mark McGwire.

Yeah he's trying the acting thing. Right now he's trying to act like a baseball player.

Gotta love a name dropper like Canseco. I think the 'roids have messed up his brain, but he is entertaining at least.

Re: Jose Canseco Traded

Canseco's a clown. He's an attention starved, D-lister who's trying to stay in the public limelight for as long as he can, by any means necessary. He's had his 15-minutes of fame and then some, and he's trying to keep that overtime period going as long as he can. I bet his next step is to try a Howard Stern-esque radio "shock jock" show or something; maybe a PPV event with some half naked women or something, as he's trying to desperately grasp for attention. It's pathetic, really, because I used to really like the guy back when he was just a ballplayer.

I used to like him when he was a "Bash Brother" with Mark McGuire. Then, I got an education and started liking the Giants. Canseco is just like some drivers in NASCAR, a big, whinny, attention starved idiot who wrote a book and is mad because his testicles have shrunk to the size of peas because of steriods. Who really cares what happens to him?

I couldn't agree more as for McGwire, Bonds, and let's throw Sosa in there too you can have them and all their tainted records.

Cool Re: Jose Canseco Traded

How can anyone bash him for his book? If it wasn't for that book, this whole steroids revelation wouldn't have happened. Jose is a piece of work but I have no major problem with him.

Re: Jose Canseco Traded

I never liked Canseco. As an Angels fan I used to go to the games against Oakland and sit in right field just to heckle him mercilessly. He always would look up at me and point my way too. One day he hit a HR that I would have caught if the guy in front of me hadn't jumped up with a glove and snagged it. When he came out that to the field the next inning, I remember him pointing at me once again and grinning. lmao

My favorite baseball play of all time has to be Canseco as a Texas Ranger going to the wall to catch a ball only to have it hit him square on the top of his head and bounce over the fence for a HR. A true classic if there ever was one.

I like the guy myself...in the same way I like TO, or Ali...his fielding was equal to his pitching though...

Exclamation Re: Jose Canseco Traded

Alright, my scoop on the book is this...while Canseco spends much time patting himself on the back and even going so far as to try to call himself the Godfather of Steroids in Baseball and the man to revolutionize the game, he brings up a lot of major points in the book.

For instance, racism in the game. I seriously doubt that if Mark McGwire or another big-name white player would be chasing the home run record, that there would be nearly the criticism and outright hatred against him as there is for Bonds. He makes a good point that while most people bash on all of these Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Asians, Mexicans, and African Americans that use steroids and get caught, how much of this is thrown in the same way of white athletes? It's kind of like a simultaneous "we didn't see that" or "they're just out to get the white guys cuz we rule the game" or some other ignorant crap.

If he lied in some parts, he lied. But Mark McGwire lied and Sosa lied and neither one has received nearly the ridicule for hurting the game as Canseco. I agree with a previous statement in this thread that Canseco really brought steroids to life with his book and made it an issue instead of everybody being amazed with how far the balls are going over the fence and how often, but never thinking why???

I don't want him in baseball as a player anymore. He has a cloud of negativity following him, and it's not really his fault. But it's better for the game if he just disappears from it. He's made his mark, however positive or negative it may be.

I don't agree Browns fan. If Mgwire was still chasing Ruth and was the bitter and nasty person that Bonds is, he'd be vilified as much as Bonds - but he's choosing to hide. Remember, Bonds was impossible to like before the whole steroids issue.

Humililty goes a long way in earning fans forgiveness. Look at Pete Rose. He's white and is absolutley scorned by the fans not because he gambled. But because he played the fans for idiots. Same with Bonds. If Bonds wouldn't act like such an idiot all the time, all fans would be a lot more forgiving.
