Re: Canseco to DH, pitch for independent team I wonder why the San Diego Surf Dawgs would consider signing Jose Canseco after the controversial book he wrote last year. He has had a history in steroid use, which does not look good on his resume. Unless the drug policy in the league is weak, I don't see a bright future in his DH career in that particular organization. It will be an interesting publicity stunt, though! Jose Canseco as a pitcher? Hehe, that's a funny one!

Re: Canseco to DH, pitch for independent team Remember the 40/40 Jose Canseco? Thats when ol' Trashed was a baseball fan! Real players! Kirk Gibson, George Brett, Don Mattingly, Will Clark, Ozzie Smith, Cal Ripken, Kirby Puckett. Guys like A-Rod and Barry Steroids dont do it for me. Huge player dropoff in talent and character.

Re: Canseco to DH, pitch for independent team I would say that Cal Ripken was one of the most reliable players in baseball history. Ozzie Smith was an incredible short-stop, even though I didn't care for him. Those days were great, but I don't think baseball will ever go back to that time period, or era. Now we live in the Homerun, or Steroid Era. Players get their money by hitting homeruns and juicing up on the latest drugs. We must all have a suspicion of our favorite players, which will never really disappear. I guess you can call us: The Lost Generation

Re: Canseco to DH, pitch for independent team One of the most controversial players in baseball history (aside from Barry Bonds) is David Ortiz. He has evolved into baseball's top homerun hitter, but lacks speed. He is a DH who is suddenly qualifying for the precious MVP award. Personally, I don't think the MLB should hand over the award to some guy who sits in the dug-out for most of the game. Kenny Lofton was an incredible player who doesn't recieve that much publicity. He is one of my favorite outfielders of all-time because he hit for the average, and stole bases. He was also a great fielder to go on top of that. He should have been contending for the MVP Award, if I was the commish for a year!

Re: Canseco to DH, pitch for independent team Once again I agree Marc. Lofton was almost a throwback to the mid to late 80s period. They called him selfish but he played like anything but. Whos to replace him? Alfonso Soriano?? No thanks! Yknow that list of players when I was a Yankee/Baseball fan made me nostalgic so please read along some more players who I would buy a ticket to see: Alan Trammel, Lou Whittaker, Gary Gaetti, Kevin Mitchell, Keith Hernandez, Dave Stewart, David Cone, Orel Hershiser, Jack Morris, Paul Molitor, Kent Hrbek, Doug Drabek, Joe Carter, Terry Steinbach, Bret Saberhagen and one last one...Tony Gwynn. I STILL could go on forever but just the list of names from a decaying memory shows you how much I used to love it and how much I now left it behind.

Re: Canseco to DH, pitch for independent team Though it sounds funny, Canseco actually has pitched a game for the Rangers in 1993. Here are his stats: 27.00 ERA, 1 IP, 3BB, 3R/ER, and he gave up 2 hits. Would anyone know who he actually got out during that one inning against the Red Sox?

Re: Canseco to DH, pitch for independent team Welcome back to the Forum, MLBNY. We could use another baseball fan around here. You are always welcome to post your ideas and thoughts about any sport, here at GoTeamsGo. Thanks for those horrible statistics. I don't recall those unlucky batters who fell to the weak hands of Jose Canseco's pitching, but I do know that Canseco went long 10 times to knock in 46 runs that year. Just for some pure enjoyment, I scanned all over the Net for the boxscore of Jose Canseco's pitching debut. The following boxscore of that game can be found at:Box Score of Game played on Saturday, May 29, 1993 at Fenway Park

Re: Canseco to DH, pitch for independent team Well at least that page gave enough info to describe how one of those outs were made, a sac fly by Billy Hatcher. I bet none of those pitches were his newly acquired knuckle-ball though.

| Re: Canseco to DH, pitch for independent team Trashed, this is not an attempt to analyze or pigeonhole you, but you sound like someone who has lost something that you can never get back, even though there is a big piece of you that wishes that you could. Your love for baseball of not that long ago is evident, and your disgust with the present day system and problems has made you reluctantly get out of a relationship that you once got so much out of, so as not to compromise your principles. Okay, maybe there is a little analysis in there.
