Re: Howe had meth in system, coroner says

It is shocking to find out that a 48-year old has passed away due to drugs!

Steve Howe was actually an odd pitcher. He would had excellent seasons and horrible seasons, back to back. It was slightly suspicious, but who could doubt this All-Star? At least, he finished his career with a winning (47-41) record. It is still sad to see him gone!

This IS the Steve Howe who had something like 7 MLB drug suspensions, right? No surprise at all that he was on methamphetamine, then. The guy had all the potential in the world but could never stay clean, and in the end it cost him everything including his life.

Re: Howe had meth in system, coroner says

Steve Howe was key in the Dodgers win over the Yankees in the 1981 world series. At the time, Dave Stewart was also a member of the Dodgers and reported that he used to stand guard at the bullpen bathroom door while Steve was sniffing cocaine. Even Howe later admitted that he had his folded stash of coke in the back pocket of his uniform while he was on the mound in the world series. It is sad but not surprising that his addictions continued and likely contributed to his early death.

Raise your hand if you are one of the people who thought Steve Howe, now out of baseball for years and with no career in jeopardy if he used drugs, had stopped his habit. Tragically, the only difference between Howe and the multitude that suffer from an addiction like this is his fame. While we will never know if it contributed to his death, we can see now how completely drugs ruled his life. May he finally rest in peace.

Re: Howe had meth in system, coroner says

It is sad that a young pitcher with a wide-career ahead of him would resort to drug use. Drug use is harmful to your body and mind, which concluded to his death. I hope that Howe rests in peace, but we must make this tragic story into a lesson for youngsters. As Lefty Noob mentioned, he had all the potential in the world--but never achieved it because of his drug addiction. He could've been a Cy Young but he chose cocaine, instead.
