Cool Nl Mvp

At this juncture who would be the NL MVP?

If Pujols didn't get hurt, it would be him without a doubt. But I would vote for David Wright. Soriano 2nd. Soriano has better numbers than Wright but his team is losing. 3rd I would vote for Beltran.

Wright is only 23. He's going to be a star for years to come.

Re: Nl Mvp

Pujols will win the MVP hands down as long as he doesn't miss a silly amount of time. Wright is a rising star, but Delgado and Beltran are having just as productive years on his own team. The West is so mediocre, I cannot see anyone coming from that division to be the MVP, unless somebody like Nomar goes on an absolute tear and leads his team to the division crown.

David Wright is my pick.

Pujols...he is going to come back and reinjure himself.

Re: Nl Mvp

All Pujols has to do is basically return and pick off where he left off...Wright is 3 or 4 years away....Beltran had his career year two years ago...

Re: Nl Mvp

Okay, assume we take Pujols out of the equation temporarily, because if he gets healthy quick and plays consistantly, he wins it, and if not, he doesn't. So who does that leave as the other top candidates?

Wright, obviously, has been nominated by quite a few people here.
Nomar leads the NL in batting (.355 average) and has 8 HR, 42 RBI and a 1.012 OPS.
What about Jason Bay of the Bucs - 20 HR, 53 RBI, .302 average, 1.018 OPS?
What about Miguel Cabrera of the Marlins - 10 HR, 45 RBI, .342 average, 1.007 OPS?

Maybe Bay and Cabrera are dark horses because of the teams they play for, but don't you think they deserve some consideration?

Re: Nl Mvp

I wouldn't take Cabrera at this point, but look at his teammate Dan Uggla- .314 BA, 12 HR, 42 RBI, 48 R, 4 SB He'll make the rookie of the year at least ( if he beats Ryan Zimmerman)....

wow Bay is at 20 homers and 53 RBIs?...cool...he will never win it in the Bucs...unless he has an outrageous finnish though.

Re: Nl Mvp

That's the sad thing, guys like Bay and Cabrera won't even get a second look because they don't play for marquee winning teams. But the numbers for both guys certainly warrant consideration, that's all I'm saying.

Re: Nl Mvp

The MVP award should be renamed the Player of the Year. There are so many guys that are invaluable to their teams. As for playing on a loser, Ernie Banks won MVP awards, as did A-Rod, playing on teams with awful records.
Wright has 15 homers, 55 RBI, and 45 runs scored
Delgado has 19 homers, 50 RBI, and 42 runs scored
Beltran has 18 homers, 53 RBI, and 51 runs scored
Jose Reyes has 6 homers, 33 RBI, and 57 runs scored with 30 stolen bases
Wright is a butcher down at third base, his ridiculous play the other night not withstanding. Delgado is not much better at first
Beltran is a much better fielder than those two
Reyes can be spectacular at times.
Of all of these guys, I feel that Wright has the most upside and will only get better.
But Pujols would have to miss a great portion of the season to lose the MVP award.
Does anyone know if the Pirates have locked up Jason Bay to a multiyear contract yet?

Re: Nl Mvp

I think Andruw Jones will be among the frontrunners- 16HR, 60 RBI, 42R, plus a gold glove
