Cheap hits

Like they say, they all look like line drives in the box score, but some hits are cheaper than others! Watching jeter's 2,000 th the other day, on a little dribbler, made me think who gets the most cheap hits in the majors. It has to be between Luis castillo of the twins and Ichiro, a pair of guys who hit it on the ground and run. Anybody else I am missing? Oh, by the way, A-Rod and Sheffiled get thier share of full swing, little dribblers down to third that there is no play on. And who gets the least cheap hits? I say it is David Ortiz, he seems to hit everything hard.

Legend, legend, legend...you are in love with the long ball my man...A hit is a hit is a hit...there is no such thing as a cheap hit...

You might as well accuse Maddux of not being a great pictcher cause he fails to throw 90 mph...or take away Phil Niekro's honor cause he was a knuckballer...or Rickey Henderson cause he milked the walk and stole second a lot...

Since when is the measure of a player how hard he hits?

Re: Cheap hits

I would rather be beaten by a home run than a little nubber that you cannot make a play on! If there are no cheap hits, the there must be no cheap goals in hockey or cheap fouls in basketball, or cheap penalties in football.

A little nubber that can not be made a play on is a skill...its an art form...Ichiro and Castillo were not born 6-5 250 lbs, and yet they can still find a way to beat you...

There are no cheap goals in hockey either...the fluttering puck that clinks off the post, can beat you just like the 50 foot awe inspiring slap shot...screening the goalie on a shot is a skill...getting one in on a rebound in the slot is a skill...

Having said that...what does either of those skills have to do with cheap fouls or penalities?...you can not clump the two, that is insane.

As for the 450 foot homer, how many of those are just a "plain bad pitch?"....How much skill does it take to crush a ball that a pitcher grooves you?...The guy that can turn on a great pitch and still get you a hit to the opposite field, has my respect more than the hulk who strikes out every third at bat, and once in a while mashes a grooved pitch 500 feet.

I suppose that kicking a 45 yard field goal to win, is also a cheap way to win...and hey while we are at it...how about kneeling on the ball in the last two minutes of a football game...

The game is not to the strongest...its to whom ever can take the talent his team has, and finds in it a way to win...
