Andruw Jones

What has happened to Andruw Jones? At one point he seemed destined for the Hall of Fame. Now he's got one home run and is hitting .170.

Possible explanations:

1) He was using performance enhancing drugs before and has now stopped.

2) Since he started at such at early age, his body is feeling older than his 31 years.

3) He has NEVER used performance enhancing drugs and he's performing at the level that a person who DIDN'T use them would be at this stage in a lengthy career.

4) Injuries?

Any ideas? Is he done?

Re: Andruw Jones

Well, I'd think it's pretty much because he got fat and lazy. Some reports have him up to around 250 pounds, and I read an interview the other day where he said he didn't care about his weight, didn't care if the fans booed him (said it was their problem if they didn't like him), etc. He got his money and now he's more interested in living the good life than working hard and playing baseball.

No doubt about it. Jones should be the poster boy for the anti-long term, anti-guaranteed money camp.

Re: Andruw Jones

Man it's a shame. Always known as a power hitter with a poor average, when he finally hit 51 home runs and then 41 the next year I figured he could toil around in the 30s after than and end up with 600+ and be in the Hall of Fame. Now I would be surprised if he ends up with 400.

Well actually he only signed a 2 year deal, so it's not long term. His agent actually wanted 7 years and 140 million from the Braves in the offseason. If memory serves, the Dodgers are the only team who would even add the second year.

Re: Andruw Jones

a real shame.... saw him play in Baltimore (with the Braves) went 3 for 4 and made the most spectacular play that I ever saw live in center field!
