Yankees Come Alive, Finally

The NY Yankees played home run derby with the Cleveland Indians today, with Jason Giambi, Johnny Damon, Robinson Cano and Wilson Betemit connecting for home runs in a 6-3 victory.

Mike Mussina (5-3) pitched his fourth straight win and earned his 255th career victory, holding on for five innings. Joba Chamberlain pitched an easy eighth and Mariano Rivera closed for his ninth save.

Finally, it looks like the New York Yankees of old.

I'm stunned to see Mussina has won four straight. Surprising and impressive.
And with all the injuries they have right now, things should only continue to improve as people get healthy.

Re: Yankees Come Alive, Finally

They do look like the Yankees of old, but unfortunately it's the 1968 version. This is a .500 team without A-Rod and Posada. The catcher and third baseman can't hit thier weight, Cano hits a homer every now and then and everyopne feels he is coming around but he doesn't, and Giambi is just old. Abreu is afraid of the padded walls of the outfield fences and they are going to depend on the Rasners and Igawas of this world to start games. Not pretty. Now they go to Detroit where Boston won 3 of 4 and should have swept. I'll bet the Yankees will be lucky to win just one.

Re: Yankees Come Alive, Finally

Seems like ever since Steinbrenner called Mussina out, he has pitched extremely well.
