Yankees-Red Sox rivalry turns fatal

A New York Yankees fan has been charged with second-degree murder after allegedly ramming her car into a group of people outside a New Hampshire bar, killing a Boston Red Sox fan.

ABC News: Yankees-Red Sox Rivalry Turns Deadly

Apparently there was some discussion in the bar, and it continued on outside when one of the rival fans made a comment about a Yankee sticker on the car of the Yankee fan. She went to her car and drove across the lot towards the group with the intention of scaring them she said.
Now if this isnt a perfect example of carrying a sports rivalry too far I dont know what is. Then mix in alcohol and whammo! The whole thing sounds pretty stupid from here.

What a pathetic story that is.

That truly takes things too far. I hope they throw the book at her.

There is a difference between loving a team and taking it to the extreme, this is far ad away past the extreme.

Tragic, but not surprising. Some fans just take it too far, where they're always one step away from going over that line. Their identity is so closely tied to their favorite team or athlete that the wins are just so euphoric and the losses are equally cataclysmic. They live and die in the sports pages. It's their religion, in many ways. I'm sure we've all seen at least one person like that in our lives. It's a mental illness if you ask me. Downright frightening.

Williams, not all us Yankee fans are bad as that gal. She was on something other than just beer.

The murder rate in New Hampshire is 1.0 per 100,000 people whereas the murder rate in Massachusetts (where those Red Soxs are based) is 2.9 per 100,000. people. She must have been originally from New York where the murder rate is 4.8 per 100,000 people. They evidently don't think much of people's lives there.

But, they play awfully good baseball there.

Unfortunately mcdc, that's what started this. Fans hating other fans. A few bad apples also spoils the barrel you know. Best to hate the teams and appreciate that the fans of your opponents love their team as much as you do yours.

If you're under the impression that the Yankees are the only team with fanatics capable of such atrocities, you are sadly mistaken.

Exactly, wasn't it a few years ago that a Dodger fan shot a Giant fan, in the parking lot after the game?
