MLB Network to air 26 live games a year

After a squabble with cable operators over the possibility of putting its out-of-market game package exclusively on DirecTV, major cable operators made a deal with Major League Baseball that gives them access to the out-of-market package and a stake in the new channel. As a result, MLB Network is expected to launch with a record 50 million cable and satellite homes. MLB Network is expected to air 26 live games a year. It will have to generate more programming to fill a 24-hour daily schedule 12 months a year. -- TV Week

The MLB Network?! Well...what would they plan on airing from November to March (sure pitchers/catchers report in Feb. but c'mon)?

The same kind of garbage the NFL network airs from feb-aug.

I'm looking forward to the network. Not eveyone has been brainwashed into thinking the NFL is the only source of Sports!

I have lost touch with this story. Is MLB going to be a pay channel as cable wanted, or is it going to be included with the package for baseball? I am looking forward to the channel, but I won't be able to pay extra for it.

It could work if they show classic games, old programming (Home Run Derby, This Week in Baseball) and add in some entertaining new stuff. Heck, maybe they could even through in some instructional programming, like how to throw a curve or how to bunt properly?

Re: MLB Network to air 26 live games a year

I'm hoping they just add it to the sports package here.

I pay $4.99 a month for it, and I get the NBA, NFL, and NHL networks, in addition to some extra college sports and a second all golf channel.

It ends up being nine more all sports channels for the $4.99, so it's worth it to me.

If the MLB channel is tossed in there, great. If not, I don't see me paying any more money for it!

Re: MLB Network to air 26 live games a year

the mlb network is only airing 26 games? that seems like a low number or a network whose sport has like 162 times how many teams games plus playoffs... doesn't even seem worth it.
