When is the real Opening Day ?

Washington D.C. – Last night was what is becoming a tradition in baseball with starting the season on a Sunday night. All of last week sat threw almost a million commercials advertise the “Opening Night”, to open the new Nationals Park, when the Nationals played the Braves last night.

Now as I’m lying on my couch watching this game I see almost a million commercials for ESPN Opening Day Baseball, and how they are broadcasting five live games on ESPN and ESPN2. So ESPN, which is the real opening day?

Oh wait that’s right the actually first game of the season or “Opening Day” if you will was last week at 5:30 in the morning live from Japan! Now I know ESPN can be a forgetful about things they have nothing to do with like MMA or every NASCAR driver not named Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, and Dale Earnhardt Jr., but that two game series between the Red Sox and A’s way on ESPN2!

Now you see when I was younger I always believed Opening Day was April 1 not March 25, March 30, or March 31, and if I’m right April 1 is tomorrow and we’ve already had three “opening days” before April 1. Anyone care to connect the dots for me, because guess what I can’t.

Baseball is not my favorite sport (football is), but I love the game more than a lot of people and I really think that Major League Baseball and (ESPN for that matter) need to figure out when Opening Day is and advertise like that, they need to figure out if Opening is March 25 in Japan, Sunday Night in Washington D.C., or Monday in the rest league.

Either way baseball is back and we’ve already had some great Opening Day moments, Kosuke Fukudome hitting a home run to tie the game for the Cubs in the ninth as they fell short to the Brewers losing 4-3, Miguel Cabrera hitting a home run in his Tigers debut as they fell short to the Royals, and Johan Santana completely destroying the Marlins in his Mets debut. Although the bottom line, is baseball is back and no matter when Opening Day, we’ve got a great summer of baseball ahead.

Re: When is the real Opening Day ?

Typical Cubbies to blow such a great moment. Phillies had better win a lot of 11-10 games with Tom Gordon in that bullpen.

Re: When is the real Opening Day ?

Opening Day will always be the first DAY where most of MLB opens up. Sorry ESPN.
