If you hate them that much, don't listen. If enough people do that, their ratings will plummet and then maybe they'll be off the air. Try Michael Kay instead. I bet you can't do it. You'll still tune in.

2) I never said I liked them. I just analyzed why their show is better than others. I've called and gotten into it with Francessa, where he's obnoxiously shouted me down.
I dont want to listen to Micheal Kay or those 2 disgraces of humanity you wrote an article about. Sports radio at that time slot is despicable. Youve got the impression that I hate Mike and the Mad Dog which I do but you also concluded that I somehow find some way to listen to them every day. In a word no. All of the points against them were before Manning tossed #49 and Russo's 40 minute Springsteen rant. I lost interest after that because they proved they dont know and dont care about sports. Never did I say what is current on what passes for their minds. I dont care. I put Fatso and Tennis Shorts down with American Idol, Tom Cruise Movies and George Bush election victories as things that are reasons other countries around the world hate america. Thats the reason Fats and The Dog are so popular are because they rely on a resource that will never run dry...the sheer stupidity of the american public.

I stand corrected Trashed. I thought you listened. I usually turn it off when Francessa gives us his expertise on the movies and Sopranos.

He talks about The Sopranos? Well to be fair Pundit a lot of the WFAN guys do (even Beningo and my fave Somers) so Tubby's not alone in that wrong as it is. I guess its pointless to say I dont like The Soprano's. Hey if you wanna sprinkle a bit of this and that off topic sports stuff on your show thats fine...its flexible, but Russo and Francesca go off on 90 minute tangents!! When this rich man's war broke out in Iraq Russo and Fran-whatever went on a 2 hour monologue about that. Thats worse than anything and thats when my misgivings about them started. If you want to know about Bush, poltics and this fake war the US is fighting there are TONS of stations TV, radio, internet and god knows what else to listen to. Fans turn to those 2 turds for sports. That was taking their self-importance to an extreme...telling sports fans what to think about soldiers fighting in a war overseas and no doubt they listened. As time went on from that point I saw what self-important, audience ignoring, blowhards they both were. The Cackling Sissyboy's ignorance of Marino's TD record and his downplaying its importance was the last straw. Yeah they have loads of influence and might have cost Charlie Weis a head coach job in the NFL. Oprah Winfrey has now not only a show but a book club and magazine where she tells you what to think and how to live your life. Oprah and the dud duo are a lot alike. They want to control your opinion ladies and gentlemen. They probably can after all U.S. citizens are like sheep and they follow a shepherd but me...I like to think for myself. No thanx to Oprah, Dr. Phil, CNN and yes Mike and the Mad Dog who offer to control my thoughts. I kind of need them. Im not writing anymore on this subject so our fine members at GoTeamsGo actually think that this is a thread worth contributing to thus giving the afforementioned "sportscasters" even more attention. Write about your favorite or most hated team guys and express YOUR opinion not what you heard from some jerk on ESPN or WFAN. Your opinion is important if you use it so do it. Enough has finally become enough when it comes to Mike and the Mad Dog. To discuss them any further would simply be a colossal waste of time.

Re: WFAN'S Mike And The Mad Dog...Shut The Radio Please!

Outside of serving the role that Clark Kellogg now holds for March madness, what did Francessa do at CBS? He awlays said "I did that Game." He wasn;t an on air talent until late 80's and then only for a few years. What does he mean "I did that Game?"

I am a sports TV addict and never saw him growing up.

Neither know a thing about college football. Russo admits almost. Yet they vote for the Heisman.

Re: WFAN'S Mike And The Mad Dog...Shut The Radio Please!

I totally agree with you, the beaker,

I have no idea why Mike and the Mad Dog are still on the air ( and on the YES network ) for 5 hours every day. Not only is there knowlege of sports very, very weak, but they're very, very boring...

Welcome to goTeamsgo Beaker. As you said, Francessa did the Clark Kellogg role. But he also worked for CBS's NFL pre-game show. He was like any other college graduate who would work in that job.He did whatever Brent Musburger told him to do. Eventually CBS wanted to have him roam the sidelines and do nonsense interviews. But Francessa takes himself to seriously for something so "menial" so he quit.

They stay on the air MVB because they're entertaining. You might not think so but their ratings say otherwise.

Re: WFAN'S Mike And The Mad Dog...Shut The Radio Please!

Trashed, the fact shows that people tune in to hear these guys opinions....I'm not even in range of WFAN but I watch their show on the YES Network because it is entertaining...the fact is you know what you are gonna get from the guys, they dont try to focus their shows on things they are unable to speak about....sure many people love hockey but they arent the right guys to discuss it....the guests they get on the show and the stories and opinions they share are truly entertaining. We have a guy in Buffalo, Mike Schopp who does some shows for ESPN Radio from time to time. He is the main 3-7pm radio show guy, ask a lot of people around our area if they like Schopp. Most people hate the guy, people criticize him for not focusing on some issues, and a lot of times hes like Mike and the Mad Dog the way he treats some callers. But all in all, I still tune in to hear this guy, hes knowledgeable about the Buffalo Sports scene and has great opinions on the issues at hand. All im sayin is you have the choice to listen to these "dopes" if you want, if you dont there is an overwhelming amount of people who do love their show. Mike and the Mad DOg make good radio....or else they wouldnt have been on for nearing the 20th year

Re: WFAN'S Mike And The Mad Dog...Shut The Radio Please!

This nest sums up Francessa's arrogance. He always talks about how he likes Michigan and they have the best fight song. A fan of say, USC, called in - I can't remember and said something to the effect, "Michigan has a great song Mike, but I like USC's song better."

Francessa said, "You're wrong. Michigan's is better. It's a fact. Everyone agrees. Every year they ask music critics to pick their best and it's Michigan. So you don't know what your talking about."

Brandon Tierney is the best NYC sports radio host.

Listening to Francessa is the same reason we look at road kill. We know it's going to make us sick but we look anyway.

Yeah the comparison Trashed made to Howard Stern is an accurate one I think. Despite the hatred, their ratings speak volumes more. People say how much they hate M&MD but whenever people turn on their radio it's usually to these guys to hear about sports in the car or especially the day after a big sporting event. Would they be as popular if they weren't such bull-headed jerks?

Probably not.

This is an old thread, considering it was started by our late Trashed.

Re: WFAN'S Mike And The Mad Dog...Shut The Radio Please!

It's what's interesting about the duo. You may not agree with them (many times I don't) but it's overall great radio.

And after a week goes by after the Super Bowl, it's always interesting to see how soon they begin talking about the baseball season. Because everyone knows the Rangers/Knicks/Nets/Isles/Devils aren't worth the airtime.
