2008 GTG Alternative Baseball Hall of Fame...

Okay fellow GTGers, we are opening up the "Unofficial Alternative Baseball Hall of Fame"...the Rules are simple...it is based soley on accomplishments on the field. Character problems, who cares. Drug issues, don't matter. Took the fifth with Congress, you are still welcomed. Steroids? Still okay.

The only catch is we will only elect the top vote getter every year, and only if you are not a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Gotta start at the start, with the guy who's been snubbed for the longest - Shoeless Joe. Rose will get next year's vote.

I really had a struggle with these two and went with Rose only cause he was my childhood favorite. I think Joe is still getting a raw deal...the man hit .375 I believe in the tainted series...I like to see what he would do if he wasn't throwing a game...

Re: 2008 GTG Alternative Baseball Hall of Fame...

Jackson always seemed to me like a likeable rube that just went along with the guys. Remember, a court of law found these fellows not guilty, but despotic Judge Kennesaw Mountain Landis threw them out of the sport for good. Jackson belongs in the Hall, as does Rose and McGwire and all these guys that tried to prolong their greatness artificially. Who among us has not done something they truly regret but at the time thought it was the best option?

I would not vote for Palmeiro. I don't think it is greatness that he hung around for so long that he got the "requied' stats to automatically get in. I can not think of one year that somebody would have thought Palmeiro was the best at his position...heck, even in the top 5.

Consitancy should count...and Palmeiro love him or hate him was consistant with the bat on the same level that Eddie Murray was before him. I see in. though not over the others on the list.

Hey, as long as both eventually get in, I'm good.

And heck, what's with only being able to vote for one, anyway?

I'm 99% sure it come out later that Jackson couldn't read and didn't know what he was signing, so unlike Rose he wasn't aware of the consquences.

He should be rewarded for being consistently average? In my eyes, the HOF is for the great players. I can look at Murray's career and say he was one of the best at his position...can't do that with Palmeiro.

Can you imagine taking a tour of the place . "Here is Babe Ruth, Here is Mickey Mantle, Here is Johnny Bench....and here is Rafael Palmeiro. He just doesn't fit.
