Gossage and steroids

Did Goose Gossage use steroids. No, but in a recent newspaper article, he admits that he would have had they been available. "I would have probably done it," Gossage is quoted as saying in today's New York Post. Anyone surprised by this?

Re: Gossage and steroids

Hey, he's just telling us that if he had faced the temptation of being able to make more money for his family by using steroids to enhance or prolong his career, he might have done it. Until you are in that situation, you cannot say what you would do. It's easy for us to sit here and judge, but who is to say that if we were good enuogh to be pro baseball players, we wouldn't try it? And it is hilarious the double standard that baseball has with football. Football is the easiest of the four major sports to play, and much easier to make it in if you are bigger and stronger, but when a Shawn Merriman or Rodney Harrison is caught with steroids absolutely red-handed, it goes away before the season is even over.

Well sure...he is in the Hall now...

Who cares. Accept the fact that the era happened...clean it up and go on. Freakin writers. If there was a substance to make them write more creative...they would all be on it...

From my perspective that isn't the point. You can "what if" about anything in the world. You can show reason why and why not. For me the point is short and simple. It is/was illegal. If it was used then lets figure out the penalty for all those involved. Once more for the final time make it vividly well known that use of this could cost you your career. Set the guidelines and follow them to the tee.

Re: Gossage and steroids

The dude basically admitted he would've cheated if he had a chance. So, doesn't that make him the same as Canseco, Bonds, Clemens, etc.?

Did he do it ???? With all the clamor today about Bonds and Clemens, I'll still wait to see what the final report is. They are guys that we love to hate because they have accomplished what few ever have or ever will.

Am I guilty of speeding just because I wanted to but because it was not available to me I didn't ?????

Re: Gossage and steroids

So now I get to my real reason for posting this.

Gossage is now a Hall of Famer. He freely and openly admits he would've used steroids and HGH is it was available to him in his era.

Doesn't that help the HOF arguments of the players who are accused without proof?

In Gossage's era, anabolic steroids were not illegal. In baseball or for any normal joe.

He's just saying like most players would, if the option to become a better player was made available, to make more money, to prolong their career, they would do it.

In theory yes ... but !!!! We are a society that says innocent until proven guilty but as we all know we have this inner self who thinks that the possibility that they did do it is actually higher than the remote possibility that they didn't. The writers are not above this feeling either even though they really should have better info than we, the mere mortals, have.
