| Re: GTG Baseball Hall of Fame Vote #2 I'm not voting for McGwire.
With Mattingly, he wasn't an elite player for a period of time. After 1989, he only had one year with over 15 home runs. Five or six great years out of a 13-year career is not HOF-worthy in my book.
Tommy John is borderline with his 288 wins. If you consider the surgery, he's an automatic. But I didn't.
Dale Murphy is borderline with his back-to-back NL MVPs. 7x All Star, 5x Gold Glove. He had some great power years (1980, 1982-1987), but his average was below average if you look at his entire career (.265). Top 10 in NL HR and RBI 15 times. He's the type of guy who you may toss and turn, right now, I'd vote for him.
Jack Morris, 254 wins. Career ERA almost at 4...he had some nice offenses behind him. 20 wins three times in his career. 3x World Series winner..including the famous Game 7. 5x All Star, 1991 WS MVP, Led Al in Wins twice. I don't see him as an elite starter. He was very good, but not HOF in my eyes. |
