GTG Baseball Hall of Fame Vote #1

The National Baseball Hall of Fame will announce their newest induction class next week. So why not put the vote up to the GoTeamsGo faithful? There are three poll threads with all of the 25 candidates.
  • Candidates must be named on 75 percent of the ballots cast to gain entry into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.
  • A player who is named on fewer than 5% of ballots is dropped from future elections.
  • You can vote for up to 10 players (try to keep to this rule. Meaning, you can vote for up to 10 players combined in the three threads).

If you wish, give reasons for your selections.

Re: GTG Baseball Hall of Fame Vote #1

*the $$ is in the mail*

Automatic No Votes for Brady Anderson (coughSTEROIDScough), Harold Baines, Rod Beck, Shawon Dunston, Chuck Finley and Travis Fryman.

How are Finley and Fryman even on the ballot to begin with?

Automatic YES Votes go to Bert Blyleven and Rich Gossage. Blyleven is in the Top 10 in career strikeouts, shutouts and innings pitched. 287 Wins, 242 Complete Games. Won 2 World Series rings. 2x All Star, one 20 win season, one 19 win season, five 17 win seasons.

Gossage is one of the best closers of all-time, period.

Only the Goose in this one, for the reason Empire mentioned - he's one of the best, regardless of statistics.

Re: GTG Baseball Hall of Fame Vote #1

I went with Goose on this with Concepcion.

Goose was a great reliever when it was very difficult to get a save. He wasn't a closer, he was a stopper.

I also made a homer vote for Concepcion, but I really believe he should be put in. He revolutionized the SS position. He was the spark plug for the big red machine. Every player that I have read about from that team said he is the player that made them go. I know he will never get in, but I can hope.

Cool Re: GTG Baseball Hall of Fame Vote #1

Goose without a doubt, I also put in Andre Dawson. I always considered him a great player.

Question: Where is JIM RICE?

Re: GTG Baseball Hall of Fame Vote #1

Bert Blyleven...

If he were pitchiing today, they would throw big dollars his way...

Played on some sorry teams though.

I also like Dawson (though not over Dale Mrphy) and Goose (who is no worse than Bruce Sutter)...but I voted for Bert Blyleven, who is one of my favorite pitchers of all time...big league curveball, had he...

Re: GTG Baseball Hall of Fame Vote #1

Harold Baines does hold one record that may never be broken-longest time between 100 RBI seasons! He actually had over 1,600 runs batted in, but with only 4 seasons of 100 or more in his 22 years.
