Jim Leyritz Charged with DUI, Vehicular Homicide

Jim Leyritz is in a South Florida county jail after being arrested for suspicion of DUI and vehicular homicide.

A local news site reported, "Police said Jim Leyritz was behind the wheel of a Ford SUV that collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Southwest Seventh Avenue and Second Street in the Himmarshee area of downtown Fort Lauderdale. The impact caused the other car to roll over and the female driver of that vehicle was ejected and she died after being taken to a local hospital, police said.

Leyritz was arrested on suspicion of DUI because he refused a Breathalyzer test, police said."

Wow, this is awful. Why people drive if they've been drinking, I'll never know.

Leyritz seemed to be destined for such a fate. Pray for the poor victim here and let's see if justice is served ultimately.

Shame he couldn't learn his lesson. One less innocent person is alive today because he couldn't call for a designated driver.

I don't think it should be called vehicular homicide. It should be called what it is...MURDER. If someone gets behind the wheel while drunk, they are playing russia roulette with everybody on the road. By now, everybody in the world should know the consequences. Put him away for good.

Murder needs intent of some sort. Stupidity, although not a crime, should be in some cases.

It's too bad the woman who was killed wasn't wearing a seat belt. She most surely would have survived. I know an EMT who told me that so many people who die because they weren't wearing seat belts would only have MINOR injuries if they would just buckle up.

Very true. But, it doesn't excuse how he was driving. He hit the vehicle hard enough to roll it while drinking.

But I am amazed how many drivers don't weat a seat belt. I don't go out of my driveway without mine.

They are certainly safer and protect more people than airbags.

I used to never wear mine until I had children. I always make them, and one day my son wouldn't. He said I never do. I kind of felt ashamed, so I won't even start the car up without buckling anymore.
