Re: Sports Crime: Pete Rose and the HOF It's different. The Commish does not have a vote (I don't think) and doesn't have an "executive" vote or anything like that. However, he can make a decision to ban someone from the Hall. Pete Rose screwed the pooch when he decided to come clean in a book. He should have simply called a press-conference and apologized to all, to baseball, the players, the fans, everyone. He tried to profit off of it and will never get in because of it. My thinking is that he should be in the HOF but they should make a special indication on his plaque so whenever someone walks through, they remember everything that's happened w/ the gambling.

Here are the offical rules...does rule 3E apply to Rose or is it a writer thing and not a MLB thing? http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/ho...rees/rules.htm

Re: Sports Crime: Pete Rose and the HOF thanks for the link GDK that does explain how the commish can keep him out according to the HOF though i still dont agree with it he is like one of the top 50 players of all time he needs to be in there what he did has nothing to do with his playing days

Re: Sports Crime: Pete Rose and the HOF I still say he should be elected, but only if his display makes reference to the ill deeds he did as well as his stats and achievements. That's the perfect solution - he's in the Hall where he belongs, and the commissioner's office saves face by forcing inclusion of his wrongdoing. That way future generations will get to learn all about Pete Rose, the good and the bad.

though a month or so ago i heard an interview on ESPN Radio that said Pete's time had run out to be on the ballot he wasnt allowed on the ballot so his time should not be running or he and the commish should come to an agreement like lefty said and the commish should talk to the HOF people i just hope it doesnt have to be done posthumusly |

Re: Sports Crime: Pete Rose and the HOF Rose may be the sleaziest individual in sports. I have been around gamblers a good part of my life as a greyhound trainer, and I can assure everyone here of one thing. When I used to bet on a race, do you think I didn't bet my own dogs? The point here is that you better believe Rose bet on his own team. And once you do that, you better believe it is easier to bet your team to lose than it is to win when you are the manager. Anybody who doesn't think he bet on the Reds is fooling themselves. This being said, he should be in the Hall of Fame for his accomplishments on the field. Ty Cobb went into the stands once and beat a heckler silly. The heckler had no arms! When this was pointed out to Cobb, he replied, "Yeah, but he had a mouth." Rogers Hornsby would bet on two turtles crossing the street, Ed Delahanty and Enos Slaughter were known racists, Juan Marichal took a bat to John Roseboro's noggin, George Brett would have beaten an umpire silly if he had not been restrained, and the list goes on. I can assure you that none of these facts are on their plaques.

Re: Sports Crime: Pete Rose and the HOF Doesn't anyone remember the scandal involving Pete Rose the player taking greenies(amphetamines) and also distributing them to teammates? I remember reading about it quite a bit, he did it with the Reds and also while with the Phillies. Does anyone else remember this? In spite of that, I still think he belongs in the HOF. There was never a more intense competitor in any sport.
