MLB Super N00b

Hi Guys!

I watched my first MLB game in 6 years yesterday, Mets vs. Cubs. I had to stay awake till 4am to see it finish and Tom Glavine get 300!

I have a few questions! -

1. Who should I support? I want an O.K. team that are on the T.V. alot!

2. What does 1-1 or 1-2 or 2-3 mean at the top of the screen? ( ESPN)

I think of some more when I remember!

Thanks MLB experts!

Six seasons ago I visited Florida! Then I saw my first game. I only just realised it is shown is England.

Will you answer my questions?

Braves and Yankees both have stations that carry their games nation wide as do the Cubs...might be easier to catch these teams...

ESPN numbers are the score to games...

Welcome aboard, and welcome back to the world of Major League Baseball!

If you get TBS over there in the UK, they're the network that carries the Atlanta Braves. The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are on TV a lot, but for the most part, national games are random. Watch a few and see which teams style of play you like the best!

I believe those numbers at the top of the screen are the ball/strike counts. Let me know if you need that explained.

Re: MLB Super N00b

Okay, the batter at the plate get's three strikes before he's declared out, and the pitcher can throw four balls (pitches outside of a designated strike zone) before the hitter gets to take first base free without hitting the ball. This is called a walk. So the first number is the number of balls the pitcher has thrown to the guy at the plate, and the second one is the number of strikes. So if it says 0-2, that means there are no balls and two strikes to the hitter, and if he gets another strike, he's ruled out.

Any other questions, feel free to ask! Also check out our Ask the MLB Experts thread!

Well i'm a Yankee fan but it's a requirement for living in the Bronx pretty much. Perhaps you should support the D-Rays, Royals, Marlins or Pirates...they need all the fans they can get!

Are Boston good? I support Celtics so they might be a good team to support!

Re: MLB Super N00b

Two More questions -

1. How do the Divisions work? Is it like NBA?

2. What are wild card leagues?

Re: MLB Super N00b

There are 6 divisions, three in each league. The American League and the National League (divided up into the East, Central and West divisions).

The wild card is the best 2nd place team that gets into the playoffs. Each league has one wild card spot.
