Sources: Selig won't celebrate Bonds record HR on field

Commissioner Bud Selig, even if he's in attendance, will not participate in any on-field celebration when Barry Bonds breaks Hank Aaron's home run record, according to two people with knowledge of the decision. ... Selig and Bonds did not talk this weekend and both said it had been a long time since they last spoke. Selig reminded reporters that a historic precedent was set by late commissioner Ford Frick when he chose not to attend the game in 1961 in which Roger Maris hit his 61st home run to set the single-season record. "He purposely wasn't there," said Selig, "which I found interesting." -- USA Today

If present for No. 756, Selig won't celebrate record - USATODAY.com

Selig by far is a bigger idiot than Bonds...why distance yourself when you were the guy on watch when the whole league went to steroids?...

What do they want the guy to do? Go on the field and do flips?

I don't think that should be done. Did they do that for Hammering Hank? I don't think so.

After it's done, stop the game and let Barry soak in the applause of his SF fans. If you want to bring him some plaque or something, fine. But anything more...I'd think that's too disingenuous thinking about the circumstances of it all.

im not saying it would be right, but I am saying that I could see them doing that,I personally think barry cheated the game by juicing but thats another post, my whole point was that if selig wasnt gonna be on the field if only for a few secs to acknowledge the feat then why show up, its kinda useless..

IMO, it has nothing to do with Selig and this is a total non-story.

Bonds will have his little 5-6 minute break during the game to soak in all the cheers and congratulatory whatevers....and then PLAY BALL.

I disagree...it's a story...it's Selig saying that he does not personally want to recognize Bonds...and it's too bad...he help create him...he should be there with the monster he created...it's only fair.

You really think he would not be there if the whole steroid issued didn't exsists/...oh please...Hank should be thee as well. He was a class act when he played. He should be a class act now.

Hank has every right to do whatever he wants...he's earned it.

Selig is a non-story. Many MLB Commish's have not been present at such historic moments...it's not a story.

Yeah, I agree. How many milestones did you see Paul Tagliabue come onto the field and acknowledge? Was he even there for Emmitt Smith? Why should Selig be held to a different standard?

Yeah, I really don't care. The celebration's not what they'll replay till the end of time, it's the homer itself people will remember.

Because it's now a story if he doesn't acknowledge it...like it's not legit.

Selig should stand side by side with Bonds, smile, wink and say, "You owe me for letting you do this" -Kodak moment.
